I'm pretty much at peace with what the Flames are this season. Playoffs were gone the moment Ramo got injured. I'm content to watch Johnny pad his stats and get that high draft position. The team knows that they are done with Hiller. Management knows. Everyone knows. Only option now is to ride this thing out.
Yes we need a new goalie, but no point in trying to salvage a wreck. Hopefully BT does his research makes a good move. A legit #1 is by far our biggest need. Not a #1C. Not a top line RW. Not a top 4 D. A legit #1G.
I take solace in all of this by reflecting on just how spoiled we were with Kipper. 10 years of top of the line goaltending. I made sure I savored every single win and save he made. I remember forcing myself to live in the moment every game I watched of his. Because I knew this day would come when we would no longer have him in net and the Flames were going to have a very hard time replacing him.
Well here we are in that very spot. Just goes to show that a goaltender is by far the most important position in hockey. We simply aren't getting NHL level goaltending.

Just play Ortio!
If he's terrible, we're still losing. If he's good, that helps the goaltending picture become a little more clear!

Wild 5, Flames 3 - But a goal went in off someone's face!

The short handed goal was a good shot, deflected goal was lucky, the other 2 were soft. Regardless, if you don't like/think the sv% from tonight is indicative then look at Hiller's sv% for the year. It isn't much better, probably not even in the top 50 of the league.

The other two were passes from goal line or behind to the slot.
50/50 chance at best for the goalie on either.
I don't even like Hiller
But quoting single game sv % grinds my gears. It is not statistically significant
I definitely remember the feeling of having zero confidence in Turek...just before Kipper was gifted to us. Its the same feeling I have every time the puck goes anywhere near Hiller....it just "could" somehow go in.
