Hearing Wideman suspension stays at 20

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Would expect an appeal to a neutral arbitrator now

update:

NHLPA @NHLPA
NHLPA will appeal Bettman’s decision upholding 20 game suspension of Wideman to the Neutral Discipline Arbitrator

		| The National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) issued the following statement this evening regarding the National Hockey League’s (NHL) decision to uphold Dennis Wideman’s suspension for 20 games: “We are extremely disappointed but not surprised that Gary Bettman upheld the decision of his staff to suspend Dennis Wideman for 20 games. This decision completely ignores the effects of the concussion that Dennis sustained when he was driven into the boards eight seconds before colliding with the linesman. We will appeal to the Neutral Discipline Arbitrator in order to have this decision overturned.”

			Wow? Really?
I'm less concerned about the Flames as I am about Wideman.

 It just feels so wrong.

Clearly stalling so that Wideman serves at least 10.

See, I hate this. Then issue 10 and uphold 10.

No surprise there really - you knew Bettman was not going to overrule Colin Campbell. Next step is the independent arbitrator. Wideman will likely have sat out about 15 games by the time an arbitrator has a hearing and then issues a ruling.

I assume there would need to be another hearing for both sides to present their cases to the arbitrator. They also have to agree on the arbitrator.

First 10 games is the concussion protocol. The next 10 games is the real suspension. It's not like the Flames defence actually misses Wideman anyway.

Wideman being out honestly helps this team. Particularly on the powerplay.
I'm more so concerned that we won't be able to move him at the deadline (if there were any takers at 50% retained) if the 20 games stands.

			Shocker!
So do they release any reasons or findings that the arbitrator can use, or do they do the whole thing over again?

So after the appeal he will easily have missed 10.
 Is that not ridiculous?
