Also, would this actually result in higher natgas prices in Quebec? I'm not sure, I haven't heard that argument before. Cappy, any more info on this? Has someone done an analysis?

Yes obviously it's a TC news release, but they have taken that into consideration with the Quebec distributors.

WCS way up too. Not sure why it's broken with the trend of following the WTI dollar value increases, but it's gain is double WTI's
edit: never mind, it looks like it was a temporary glitch in the market feed

Nope. Give it another go Peter. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Unless someone truly believes that Canada buying less Saudi oil is going to equally lessen Saudi human rights abuse, then the argument seems to rest on the categorical imperative. It's a stance that I agree with. We should be buying less Saudi oil, regardless of whether other countries follow suit and whether it actually results in less human rights abuses because it's the right thing to do on a universal level. Unless you believe that reducing GHGs is the wrong thing to do at a universal level, then selectively applying the categorical imperative seems self-serving and disingenuous.
Now if your argument is one of skepticism towards anthropogenic climate change, then you're probably on the same level of critical thinking as someone who has no problem buying Saudi oil on the grounds of cultural relativism and there's really no conversation to be had.

Renewable energy, waste of money, terrible investment.
http://www.sacbee.com/opinion/op-ed/...e59845756.html
Quote:
The notion that renewable energy would drive up electricity costs for ratepayers has been treated as conventional wisdom by opponents. Since adoption of the first renewable portfolio standard in 2002, increases to average retail rates charged by utilities such as Pacific Gas and Electric Co., have been lower than the rate of inflation. During this same period, with innovation from Silicon Valley and elsewhere, solar power costs have declined to one-tenth of what they were. Today, utility-scale solar and wind have reached cost parity with fossil fuels.
The lower cost of renewable energy has helped California wean itself from coal, the dirtiest of all fossil fuels. In-state coal-fired generation has almost disappeared and direct imports from coal facilities outside California are slated to end within a decade.
California has a proven formula. Stable, long-term policies steadily ratchet up renewable energy procurement by utilities and provide the certainty that the private sector needs for investment, innovation and cost reduction.
Thanks to the steady hand at the wheel provided by the governor and legislative leaders, California is leading the race to a clean-energy future. Far from being an expensive option for ratepayers, renewable energy is proving to be one of California’s smartest investments.

At 17c/kWh it's probably easier to get parity to fossil fuels with renewables. Our cost is what, 5.9c/kWh? So we've got a ways to go.

So what does everyone think of this production freeze by Saudi and Russia? Is this the beginning of the rebound?

It means nothing because it's depending on Iran doing the same. Iran won't and January levels, where the production freeze sits, are the highest ever for Saudi and Russia.

Pretty close to buying UWTI. Short term it's right there. One more little push....
