				 How safe is Hartley's job?

What are your thoughts on the job security of Hartley? Personally, I think Treliiving could clean house of his staff. Then you look at bringing in another coach with a new system and adjustments need to be made. I believe last year was a fluke season and Hartley was lucky to win the Adams.
I don't know what the answer is but one is needed soon. The young talent is there, maybe a new coach is needed.

			Safe.
If the Flames don't figure things out by this time next year, that's a different story.

Regression from Hudler, Wideman, Ramo, Bouma, and Hiller is the entire reason why the Flames are not in the spot San Jose is.

If the Flames address the goaltending and add another scorer or two in the offseason and the Flames are still terrible, then they probably move on from Hartley.

Hartley has until next summer. His new contract isn't even a year old yet and he's done a good job. He'll be a transition coach like Feaster was for GM.

I will qualify my comment with stating I'm not a Hartley fan, but I could definitely see him gone after this year. He hasn't really adjusted his game plan when it doesn't work and he can't seem to get a team with any sort of expectation of success going in the right direction.
He's not going to be the long term coach here, and a season where we have a lot of turnover, which this offseason might be, is as good a time as any to replace the coach.

I think he's safe enough to start next season behind the bench. Then, we'll see how things go from there.

It was a fluke that he had Dennis Wideman and Kris Russell as his top pairing for 35+ games and even won a series against Vancouver?

Who would you hire if Hartley gets canned? Let's see some names. Also you realize that Gelinas would probably take over as interim HC?

No way is Hartley's job in Calgary done. I personally think he has done some pretty good things considering a rough year. I'd give him one more year to see if he can make this club succeed, and if he doesn't, that's when you pull the trigger and get a new coach. His development of the younger players has been pretty good, and has stepped up when times were needed.
Scratching Monahan, Gaudreau, and Bouma was a very gutsy move for him and it payed off well. He sent a message to them that you can't slack off in the middle of the playoff push and that's something that the kids will learn for the rest of their career.

His system compliments our defense very well. Yes, there are some flaws on the defensive side, but on offense, that's when our team becomes a #1 threat. That extra rush when the D are activated is a very good system and it a major part of the team.

There are other times when Hartley can be questionable but we need to remain patient. His development of our young players have been very good so far and one bad season shouldn't affect his future. Give it time and if the results don't show, that's when you move on.

			A look at recent coaches:
Playfair - Demoted, but not fired
Keenan - One Year Remaining On Contract when fired.
Brent Sutter - Played Out Contract
 Ward - Played Out Contract
Hartley - One Year Remaining On Contract after this season

My money is on Hartley playing out his contract barring another horrible October.

Things that could even get him another contract would be:

 2017 Flames are >50% possession (Close/SA)
Youth like Bennett, Monahan, Hamilton, Kulak, Poirier, Jankowski, Granlund grow into better contributors
 GAA under 2.00

I don't have any names as replacements. Was just throwing this out for debate to see what most thought.

He has until 2017 is my guess. I suspect by the time it happens it will be clearly overdue, like Wild with Yeo.

Isn't this the first year of his contract? I agree he is safe this off season but could be on the chopping block if there is a bad start next year.

If we had a legit #1 goalie, suddenly Hartley looks like a great coach. This crappy season isn't on him, it's on the other 20 people who play for him.
Having said that, l like what Hartley's done. He's taken away the country club atmosphere and brought in one that demands hard work and accountability. I think he's fixed a lot of the issues behind closed doors that we don't see. Sure he's made questionable decisions. But I blame the players more then I do him.

I also think that next season is his make or break season. If the Flames come out listless and behind the 8-ball like they did this season, we'll see him fired early on. I also think that BT is smart enough to see that we need better personal and that the head coach is the least of our issues.

The assistants who run the PP and PK on the other hand....

He's got 20 or 30 games into next season. If the team isn't competitive at that time, I think he's out.
