It'd be nice if we could have just one frigging D prospect not miss time with a damn injury.
Hopefully it's not too serious of an injury.

Heat getting curb stomped by the Condors.
5-1 in the 2nd. Being out shot 33-17
Guess it shouldn't be a surprise when you lose Johnson, Nakladal, Kylington and Grant all in the span of a week or so.

Game ends with a 7-3 final. Raymond gets his first goal as a member of the Heat. Final shots are 48-43 Bakersfield.
That second period was hard to watch. Ortio definitely played the better game. Poulin was completely made a fool of.

Is anyone getting scratched so Colton Orr can play these last two games?

No, we are down a ton of bodies. Arnold and Grant are injured up front. Kylington, Johnson and Smith are all injured on Defence and Nakladal is up with the Flames.
Stockton only carries 15 forwards on the roster, so with Arnold and Grant down, we only have 13 playable. Worst case, Orr is taking a spot from Blair Riley. Kind of a toss up who wants to go out there and patrol and punch faces that night.

Heat have called up Mitchel Heard from Adirondack.
Presumably to offset the loss of Grant.

The team has mostly rookies and younger guys. Teams that have mostly rookies and younger guys tend to be among the worst teams in the AHL.

I can understand that. What I can't understand is why so many players are underperforming, such as Arnold, Poirer, Klimchuck, and Shore. It doesn't seem like Huska's system is aligned with Hartley's either. The defense are not scoring goals, unlike the Flames D. So many Stockton Dman aren't putting up points.
He hasn't been able to get the most out out of a lot of players outside of Grant and Agostino, so I can't see him returning next season.

They don't have the same type of defensemen Calgary has, so why would you expect them to be scoring even within that system? Johnson, Stevenson, Nakladal, Wotehrspoon and Seiloff are not offensive defensemen. In this system with the offense being generated from the blueline, when there is no offensive defensemen it makes it difficult for the forwards to generate offense.

Klimchuk was used in a defensive role to get him to improve his 200 ft game. More recently he's being used on the first/second lines and he's putting up points. Poirier was learning a new way to do things in the first two months and a bit, but since then has been producing at a similar clip as he was year. Arnold's been hurt most of the year, and Shore just plain sucked through December, he was terrible in training camp as well, so it might have been just a period of suck for him.
The only high quality D prospect in Stockton is Kylington. Everyone else is kind of mediocre overall.

The philosophy in Stockton seems to be to prepare every player to play a 200ft game, and be able to step onto NHL ice without being a liability. Points are really secondary. As other posters have alluded to, it's only when a player proves that they are defensively responsible that they are being put in a position to succeed offensively.
That is likely why Grant looked so good in his limited minutes in Calgary, and why I really want to see Nakladal with 15+ minutes. The ability of both of these players to adapt to the NHL will be a good indication of what to expect from other graduates from the AHL. When they are ready.
I see it as limiting the rookie learning curve.

Morrison, Kulak, Culkin and Kylington are. Wotherspoon is supposed to be working on his offensive game. So is Sieloff.
And even Kylington isn't generating a whole lot of offence - his improvement has been in the defensive zone (which is great, but the point about offense stands).
I know that young teams don't do well in the AHL, but that doesn't excuse his complete lack of success on so many fronts.
Forwards?... D?... goaltending?...
Nope. We aren't seeing much in the way of improvements anywhere.

Brad Pascall GM of the team was on the Fan960, said they were quite happy with the coaching staff.
Not sure how anyone can even BEGIN to judge the coaching staff if they aren't watching the team full time and even then.

Come on, FDW...
!) what do you expect him to say on the air?

Whenever the GM has to state publicly that they are happy with the coaching staff, it's often because there are issues or concerns with the coaching staff.
Not always, obviously. But often.

Sure we can, they're just extremely uninformed. But people spew off about Hartley's staff with uninformed opinions too. Guess we won't really know what they think of the staff until they potentially make a change. Pascall didn't sound insincere though.
Personally the reasons people are saying they are disappointed in the staff don't really hold up for me. Hard to us to judge development from another country. There's about the normal amount of disappointments, surprises, good seasons, etc. For a team that isn't loaded up with a lot of good AHL vets they seem to be doing okay.
I dunno, I don't see enough data that supports the idea that the staff is doing a poor job. Be interesting to see how the season finishes.
