The league shouldn't conflate the suspendable with the laughable.
Now, if John Scott or another enforcer who could literally kill another player did it, different story . . .

Any adult human could kill any other adult human with a hockey stick. Or a skate for that matter.
Death threats, no matter how laughable, should not be tolerated.

So why aren't we suspending every player for saying it in the ice?

FAN960 ran through throat slash gesture incidents this afternoon, and it totally demonstrated the NHL wheel of justice, as there was everything from suspensions to fines to no punishment at all. I think in one case a player had previously been punished for the gesture was let off the second time he did it. NHL precedents aren't worth anything.
I also love how the first half of this thread was jokes about Kadri's actions being due to 'concussion'...then he comes out and basically makes the same claim

I was waiting for someone to say something like this lol.
Kadri does the old, "you're dead" hand gesture across the throat and everyone freaks out. "OMG did you see that? Kadri better get suspended!"
Message boards create topics on the issue. Every sports show talks about & replays the hand gesture over and over. The media crowds around Kadri when he addresses the hand gesture! OMG front page news!!!!
But when a player instigates a fight and then pounds the crap out of said player, nobody blinks an eye at it hahahaha! It's pretty funny when you think about it.

Oh come on
The NHL doesn't care if little Timmy goes home and murders sparrows with a BB gun. All they care about is that little Timmy's parents think that an NHL hockey game is an appropriate family activity, so they'll buy tickets for the whole family.

The NHL basically drew a line in the sand with Widemanghazi.
Zero games if it's not on purpose. Khadri won't get games, and he should. Also a repeat offender.

What was Kadri even mad about? That he got hit?
I don't get why players aren't allowed to hit hard anymore without having to fight or causing temper tantrums. It's part of the game.

Help, save, whatever.
|
Fine him at the most. It's not like he skated past the player with his glove off and made a big show of it. He was on the bench chirping and did the hand gesture. Don't see why it's a big deal...

Honestly, don't really care if he gets suspended or fined. The twerp got his jock strap fed to him three times in that game... he learned his lesson.

Pretty sure players have been. Probably because they're not all wearing microphones broadcast for all the fans to hear. But they are all on TV.
The same reason a player will get suspended for flipping someone off, but not for telling them to go f*** themselves.

It's not about it being a big deal. I doubt Giordano or the Flames actually care. It's about the NHL having some semblance of consistency. If you're going to suspend other players for doing it, you have to suspend all players who do it.

I highly suspect (due to your avatar) that had this been the other way round and someone from Cgy did that to one of your players you would think that its a big deal and worthy of suspension.

I think he said he thought it was a high, headhunting hit. He was wrong (or BSing).
