He also has the versatility to transition to forward if his skating drops.
For Winnipeg I like this deal.

Seems like a pretty darn good deal to me. 5 years is a great term and he's a great player so they had to pay to keep him.

It is good from a Jets standpoint because it shows some players want to be in Winnipeg.

He obviously got a few more dollars for signing only 5. I say a good deal for both sides there.
I can almost hear the gasps from Edmonton who thought they'd be signing him for sure.

I'm happy for Winnipeg ... love it when teams keep their players. I voted "nope" though because of his body history. If he yo yo's his weight up and down into his mid 30's this could hurt the Jets bigtime.

I voted no due to weight concerns and his knack for taking dumb penalties or being too aggressive.

It's OK. I've checked and they'll just go hard for Trouba now so problem solved

I'm not sure he has more than 3-4 good years left in him, but I doubt the Jets could've signed him for that short of a timeframe, so 5 seems like a reasonable amount.

I thinks it's good and fair signing for both.

Oiler fans are already lining up the deals for Trouba - the next great "almost an Oiler" defenseman

Yeah, I like the deal in the short term, but seems risky in the long term.
It's an overpayment, but it seems like most deals are these days to me, so I don't know what to think anymore. I do know that Buff has made a career of proving people wrong. And if the Jets are going to overpay a pending UFA, Buff is as good as any.

Once Ladd is traded either Buff or Wheeler will be captain.

Great deal simply because of term. this bodes well for the Flames to get rid of one or both of Wideman and Russell. Russell's value bumps up as a UFA with one less fish to worry about. Glad a big name player is staying in Canada as well.

I think this is a good deal for both sides. Gives Buff good money and term but isn't outrageously long for the Jets.

Are they ready to give up this years 1st or Draisaitl or Nurse or Klefbom.
Doubt the Jets want to take on the extra money that one of the older forwards would cost.

Are they actually mobbing him? Or are they trying to pick him up?

I take Gio at $6.75M over Buff at $7.5M. I think Gio won't breakdown as quick when they're older. He does keep himself at tip top shape.

I like it for the Peg, yes it's a big hit but with players at Buffs age wanting term it's a good deal. Buff had a lot of leverage in negotiations I believe due to the teams circumstances. Every player signed for big money into their mid to late 30's is always a risk. He's versatile and put him in front of the net if he loses a step.
Now the Jets should move Trouba for Hamonic and they should be in the playoffs next year. Signing Trouba long term could be a gamble they cant take.
