crazy stuff. They apparently pay HUGE wages to lure players.
Crazy numbers.

Was there a better transfer window, that Evra & Vidic in Jan '06?

Thats insane. I hope that doesnt skew the market because Liverpool seriously need to buy some players but I wouldnt want to pay anywhere near those figures for any of those players.

Gervinho? 'The' Gervinho? He wasnt worth that in his prime.

It's not even just the transfer numbers, the wages some of these guys make in China is mind bottling, with rumors some guys are making over £500,000 per week. Saying no to that much money is mighty difficult.

No kidding, especially if you understand that you're a mid-level player with some recognition.

I'd be signing up for that at the drop of a hat. Its insane money.

well ... rumour has it that Alex Teixeira is going to China as well for about £35m now. Liverpool had a £24m bid denied last week.

Yeah, I read some of those. I have no opinion on Teixeira other than we already have someone named that, but he supposedly also had some sort of insanely expensive release clause.

Why would any player go to MLS if they could cash in on China? Hell, there probably arent even any taxes in China either.

Could you imagine cashing £500K/week and getting to keep it all? That is madness.

there's question marks though. The wages are insane, but who knows whether the players are actually paid. Don't forget that players like Drogba and Anelka went to China a couple of years ago as well, but quickly left again because they hadn't been paid in months.

Which makes total sense. Those wages are completely out of touch with any semblance of reality but if you get paid even half the time you are literally, and I do mean literally literally not figuratively, literally rolling in cash.

I mean, you could if you wanted to.

Yeah its an insane amount of money, but if you're not getting paid it then I can see how that would be frustrating. I also would imagine its a huge culture shock to live and play in China as opposed to western Europe. Some guys are going to love that and be up for the adventure, and others would rather make less and live somewhere they're more accustomed to.

Alex Teixeira has indeed completed his transfer to China for a whooping €50m.

And according to L'Equipe, PSG striker Ezequiel Lavezzi will go to China too. Shanghai Shenua have offered him €10m after tax and Paris will get close to a €10m fee, despite Lavezzi being out of contract this summer.

For fifty mill they can have him.

I dont blame him, I'd easily take that kind of cake at the drop of a hat too.

At the end of the day accomplishments are all well and good but money is money.

Bayern Munich only have 1 fit CB.

Holger Badstuber.

Now that is ironic.

Thank God for Neuer. Hes practically playing CB as well at the moment.

Tah and Toprak were amazing but Badstuber was immense today.

I've been interested in the rise of the Western Sydney Wanderers and their crazy fans but am very confused at some of the European football traditions they are trying to bring to Australia. Sure I get the singing and chanting but what is the deal with the following (ie. context and history)? As a fan of North American sports they make no sense to me.

-Flares
-Standing room sections
-The Poznan

I don't know about those things in particular, but somewhat similarly, one of the lamest things about MLS is the copycat culture. Like the singing and chanting is awesome, and that's cool to bring that over as an influence. But then you see something like "Miami United" and think its the uniting of what exactly? It's not like there are clubs coming together and you know...uniting. Its just a pure copycat and marketing.

The worst example of what you're talking about.
