LR 1300 wind blew it over as they were trying to move it for better positioning cause of wind....From what I have read anyway
It's gotta be tricky with the wind dynamics through those tall NY buildings. It looks like the wind took the boom / jib or the winch failed and it free wheeled. It's hard to imagine the OE booming down that fast and losing it.
Why are the IW's scabbing on the OE's? Should at least be a composite crew.
From youtube.
Quote:
Local 7 Ironworkers and Hallamore Crane Operations Crew reeve the block of a Demag AC 600-ton telescoping crane from left to right with 24 mm CASAR cable and 1,804 feet of line on the main winch.
Working as a team they thread the cable on a brisk April dawn in preparation for a 200-ton trip and lift of a 120 foot long bridge tower section in Chelsea, MA.
In my opinion it was all wind and possibly operator error (could've luffed down to much and that helped the wind push it over). If the winch failed I don't see the cab flipping, but I'm not overly knowledgable about crawlers so who knows
Looks to me like Hallamore aren't using an OE from the Massachusetts OE union local 98 and instead are using 'staff' personnel to 'assist' these Ironworkers. But they do get good quality labour from the IW's. They probably aren't even signatory to local 98. This is typical, rightly or wrongly, of crane companies that keep knowledge in house.

Different areas have different agreements on how the work is divided. You're an OE I take it. As far as I know we usually have good relationships with operators.
