So I am not a dick, I am in fact a liar.

Except here. Because I'm telling the truth.

Now it isnt funny anymore. Well done.
Wait...If you're a liar, how do we know you're not a dick?

The best part was that if you read my other post I am not a dick because I didnt hit a coworker in the spine with a pipe because I dont have any coworkers.

So, presumably if I did have coworkers a pipe to the spine is probably still on the table.

questions: would you be woozy while doing it? If yes, then how long until you should be back at work? How severely injured would your co-worker be and how long until they came back to work? Lastly, can we believe you you lying dick?

Let's play a new game and maybe add a poll:

The over under for the final number of games Wideman is suspended for is 13.5

Do you think he'll get more than 13.5
Do you think he'll get less than 13.5

I say less, probably 10ish. 13 tops IMO

Maybe you hit yourself with the pipe, and all of this is just one big woozy haze.

My whole life is one big woozy haze but unbelievably that has nothing to do with pipes to the spine.

Maybe your life is one big woozy haze because you actually do have co-workers and one of them accidentally walked into you from behind while carrying a pipe.

But what do you think the total games will be after the appeal?

I'm thinking 8.

The NHL blew this out of the water one way and I think they're going to overcompensate in the other direction now.

I totally agree with Resolute, the perfect number was 10 and if they'd just done that in the first place this whole fiasco would be resolved.

^Common wisdom seems to be that the league went with 20 under the expectation an arbitrator would knock it down to 10.

Yeah, it's cool if people are convinced Wideman's incident was entirely accidental, but most of these videos are demonstrating nothing more than a victim complex. "Oooh, look at this event that is nothing at all like Wideman's incident. Give him 20 games too!"

Well in fairness to that point of view the whole point of the ol' whopper 20 game suspension was to hammer home the point that officials are untouchable and that there will be stiff consequences.

So...there kind of have to be stiff consequences. Always.

Sure. And if you show me another player who, despite being nowhere near the play and having no intention of becoming involved in the play, skates directly into an official from behind and crosschecks him down without consequences, then we'll have a decent comparable.

Showing a bunch of videos of officials getting involved in the play does not create comparable situations.

The Flames need to replicate this in a laboratory environment.

Similarities between the Smith and Wideman hit:
- player is trying to get to something, and the official skates backwards into his path (that is to say their paths intersect; the players also skated into the officials' paths)
- the puck was in fairly close proximity to the players and may have contributed to them not seeing the officals (I'm still surprised this isn't brought up more with Wideman)
- players appear to jig their skates at the last second to avoid contact
- players were surprised at contact with official and put their arms up, effectively pushing the official down
- pretty sure both players continued towards their objective afterwards

Main differences I see:

- Smith is going for the puck at full speed during play
- Camera angles are different; if we had one at ice level that didn't really show where the puck was, it would look like Smith skated directly into the ref

IMO Smith should = 1 game. (as should Muzzin and Joseph (pretty sure that was playoffs though, and I don't want to imagine the Leaf fan outrage). Lucic incident should probably be 1-2 games, upped to 3-4 based on his suspension experience. His action was illegal regardless of who he hit (of course I'm only saying a penalty if he hit the player, not a suspension). Wideman should be 3-5, due to optics more than evidence (obviously I contend it was absolutely accidental).

If the league really wants to pretend to have zero tolerance and stick up for the safety of their officials, then they need to make sure they are protected at full game speed.

Doesnt matter. Any comparisons are for us and we dont count. I totally agree with you it just doesnt matter.

The NHL has basically said that if you smoke an official you're getting binned for 20.
