Yeah, because everybody gets to deduct $16K worth of tax credits every year.

Holy fark, thanks for the update. I guess I forgot that when I was in university and budgeting my expenses, I didn't realize that tution wasn't my only cost!
Apparently you did because the way you posted maked it seem like you get to deduct your entire student loan off of your income tax.

Yeah, pity everybody else that has to pay for living with after tax money. Let's give them all a free ride too! Weeee!!
With a post like this you must still be in highschool. Pretty pathetic.

With your pathetic grammar, you must still be in grade 3.

Too bad you can't actually back up anything you say with anything else but your own muddled opinion. Gee, you must actually think that you're some kind of nice guy, what with your altruistic policy of giving people free rides for no good reason.

Free ride eh??? Strange... You must be a few fries short of a happy meal if you think a free ride means paying back what you borrowed.

Your one of those people that go around hating the world, thinking you were so hard done by and everyone else needs to suffer. I pity you.

God damn it, if you're going to quote, learn how to use the damned feature properly, dummy.

Quote:
You are out to lunch buddy. Those little stats you provided tell jack****. It simply says that percentage of people who are behind on their loan payment. That doesnt tell how many people actually didn't pay their loan.
Are you stupid? Have you ever invoiced anyone? Of course you haven't. You're a dumb pleeb that can barely form a sentence without screwing up.

Let me give you a quick tutorial on how receivables work. After 90 days, if you have not made a payment most lenders assume you have no intention of paying back your loan, because, well, most people don't. Student loans are even more generous, in that you can stop payment simply by contact the lender and giving them a sob story. So there's really no reason for someone to default on a student loan just because they can't pay.

Quote:
A big problem is the interest. If people didn't have to pay the interest (which could be half of their actual payment) they would be more likely to pay the loan.
They would? You have proof of that?

Quote:
But I guess you don't really want to tackle the actual problem, you just want people to PAY, right.
What the hell else are they supposed to do? Someone LOANED THEM MONEY. Do you understand what a LOAN is? It is when SOMEONE GIVES YOU MONEY AND THEN YOU HAVE TO PAY THEM BACK. Is your brain so addled that you don't even understand this basic concept?

Quote:
What the hell are you talking about? People have to prove they are in school to get loans, not sure if your aware of that, they also have to prove they are in financial need, so please tell me how they are going to buy a car and pay for there (sic) schooling?
It was sarcasm, dummy.

Quote:
If they can't pay for their schooling they will be kicked out of school and will not be able to get any more loans. Grade 2 math. Making it so loan payments can actually be paid back would decrease the default rate. Like I said before, I would rather it take 25 years for someone to pay back their loans instead of nothing at all. But go ahead, charge interest
Did you not read the part where I amortized my loan so that I had FIFTEEN years to pay back my loan? The ONLY loan you can amortize longer than a student loan is a secured loan, backed by a massive asset, such as a house. What the hell is a student loan secured with? The student's word? Your word?

Quote:
Good for you....you only paid $270 a month. $540 a month is a lot of money for someone only making $20,000 a year that means $6,000...$6,000 you get that. So no matter if someone makes $100,000 or $20,000 the payments will be the same. Sounds really fair.
Of course it's fair. What makes it not fair? And who even cares if it's not fair? You? Who the hell are you anyways?

Quote:
Try living in Calgary making 20 or even 30 thousand paying $6000 a year in student loan payments $8,000 to $10,000 rent payments, food, clothing, transportation.
Aw shucks. But then you go on to say that even "highschool (sic)" students make $100K. So which is it? Are people making $100K or are they making $20K? Or do you have zero idea what you're talking about?

Quote:
As for the three percent. You need to make enough money to actaully get back your interest credits.
If someone pays tax, MONEY IS ALWAYS RETURNED when redeeming tax credits. That's how tax credits work, dummy.

Quote:
Actually, today it doesn't pay to go to school for 4 or 6 years. You can make over a $100,000 without a highschool diploma nowadays.
I suggest you learn what "Next Best Alternative" means, and that when the economy goes into the crapper again, those high school (high school being two words, dummy) students will be lucky to be working at Zellers stocking shelves.
Quote:
That is one of the problems, I know of at least one University that has its enrollements down and they are blaiming (sic) it on just that. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Yeah, which university? Come on, stop making **** up and give me some proof. Or is that the university of made-up-**** from your oxygen deprived mind?

And now that you've realized that you've once again failed to think your half-baked opinion through, you bring up yet another one of your pathetic strawman arguments.

You should just give up. Your naivete concerning anything financial has proved to me that you're either still in grade school and trying your hardest to pretend you're some kind of adult, or you got lobotomized and you don't realize it.

No, I think people should pay back what they owe. And that includes interest.

I don't need your pity, dummy. And I am certainly not one of those people "that go around hating the world, thinking you were so hard done by and everyone else needs to suffer".

And paying back a loan is suffering? What a fantasy life you must lead. Keep on smoking the good stuff, dummy.

Did you take your prozac today? Just so you know, I could care less if there are grammatical errors. This is not a published document, it's a site ment for discussion, so if it ****es you off, the more reason to do it.

Thanks for the lesson. How much do you want to charge me now.

Common sense Einstien, lower payments mean people have an easier time making the payment.

Again, you must be a few clowns short of a circus, where did I say they shouldn't pay it back?????????????????????????????????????????????? Oh, ya...thats right I didn't.

It's ok, smash your keyboard, I can just see the fit of rage your in now.

Not sure if you know this, but.....the government can make any kind of loan repayment option they want. Last time I looked I didn't see repayment terms in the constitution. If they want to let people take 50 years to pay it off they can. Can you understand that????
Quote:

Usually the people that have gone to school for 4 years aren't the people that will be running tongs on an oil rig. So it's both ######.

Quote:

Wow, we agree on something. But what your not getting is, what are the point in tax credits if you dont' make enough to redeem them. Ahhhh. Now you got it. Don't smash the monitor now.

Here's the thing guy, people are going to need a lot of oil and gas for a long time, there is no slowing down anytime soon. You don't need to work very long making $100,000 to save up for a slowdown in the economy. If they saved their money right, they will be YOUR boss. Having worked on an oil rig, I have seen a lot of people work hard for about two years, save it, then go buy a business and they are set for life. Not even a high school diploma.

What does it matter, you wont believe me anyway.

With all of Albertas riches and lack of people in the workforce maybe the next government should just suggest that they will pay for all University fees for any student entering their 3rd or 4th year...or College student in their 2nd or 3rd year. Make it available only to students who are born and raised in Alberta and contingent on them remaining in the Alta workforce for a min of 5 years after grad.

Barring that elect an NDP government...its time for change Alberta...larf.

Oh, joke of moke, once again someone has torn down all your nonsensical pathetic arguments and you have to resort to personal attacks, having exhausted the three brain cells that still work inside that noggin of yours.

It must suck that you're such a smug, self-righteous, pseudo-altruistic gumby who can't even get his facts straight. I pity you. I guess using Google is too much work for you, so that you'd find stuff like this:

http://www.ucalgary.ca/awards/studen...repayment.html

Read the "What is "loan forgiveness" section. Looks like the government is already doing their part in helping out your supposed suffering students.

And I'm married, have a kid coming, am self employed, and make a hell of a lot more money than you. Oh, and I actually paid back my student loans on time, without even one late payment.

Lets get one thng straight, YOU started the personal attacks.

I guess you haven't been smart enough to figure out that I want students to pay their full student loan amounts, not get a free ride like you did. My position all along was for students to pay back ALL their loan Interest free but over a longer period of time based on income. But you must not be able to grasp that.

This little spurt shows nothing more than how ignorant you are. You have no idea who I am, what I do, how much I make, and what my family situation is. But I guess you can make a comment about it eh?? Same thing you have been doing this whole thread.

I am done talking to a an angry little man like yourself.

To me it comes down to handling provincial income.

The only man I trust with the billions of dollars flowing into this province is:
-a former Provincial Treasurer who is responsible for eliminating Alberta's deficit
-a man who served as a VP at Transalta.
-a man who is the Chairman of the Western Financial Group

i.e., a man with a balanced fiscal resume involving both the public and private sector.

That man is Jim Dinning.

The same Jim Dinning whose slashing severely damaged healthcare to the point of having to close two Calgary hospitals and drastically reducing others to the point that we are still suffering...?

The same Jim Dinning who was chair of the CRHA while it was being run into the ground?

The same Jim Dinning who derides Klein, yet offers the same solutions as Klein...

Yeah, that's who we want to be Premier. Not like most of the others are heads and tails better, but if you want to speak to the record of Dinning, lets not forget what he left behind, particularly in healthcare... something the Liberals, NDP and Alliance will definitely hang him on.

man, that little spat between Shazam and Joliner had me laughing pretty good. Some good digs in there, but more clever ones than resorting to calling each other genital-based names.
