Yes. Exactly that. And because this was easily, and far and away the most competitive ASG that anyone can remember Duchene's play on Scott's "breakaway" stuck out like a sore thumb. I certainly wasn't rolling my eyes at any other point in the tournament.
I think a few of you are really over-blowing that play.
Scott had a few steps on him and has an incredible reach advantage. Using his body to shield + that long reach doesn't make the play seem anything like a few people have alluded to in this thread.
It's not like Duchene stopped skating at Centre ice and stood back and watched. He caught up to the back of Scott and even attempted to hack at him a bit (for an Allstar game).
In a game where no one was really playing with that level of intensity, I don't find that play any more farcical than a dozen other just like it.
The other side of that equation being missed is Dubnyk played well that game and certianly didn't give up a freebee. Regardless of Duchene not turning on the afterburners, credit to Scott for a good shot.

What is with some of these media guys who were trashing this players inclusion all along now going full throttle on the "feel good story" Kinda odd.
Personally I had no issue with him there. Haven't seen an All-Star game in years and watched a few minutes of skills competition and it was good fun.
Funniest part is some of these armchair hockey "expert" fans and media losing their cool over this thing and the real All-Stars like Kane, Jagr, Gio etc expressing nothing but support.
At the end of the day there were toddlers one the ice, players wearing masks, wigs, cowboy hats and goalies using guitars as goalie sticks. How serious of a hockey weekend was this suppose to be?? Some people giving serious hate to this guy and acting like he didn't belong in the building ! The irony is the people I know who were chirping this guy the most are the guys who can't skate, pretend their #99 on their weekend team and guzzle Biosteel sports drink to regain their breath after their 25 second shift.
The NHL better thank John Scott and others for what will probably turn into a ratings and media bonanza. I haven't seen this much hate or energy being expelled for an All-Star game since the invention of the FoxTrax puck system.

100x that quote.
But don't you know, sometimes there are scouts that watch those games

I have to admit I never really got all the noise about John Scott, not one way of the other, but I thought it added a nice flavour. It's like a bit of a different perspective on the whole sports stardom thing.
I think it would be nice if the NHL developed this idea forward a bit, having sort of a 1 player quota for players who have paid their dues many times over but never get a whiff of real stardom.
Sure whatever floats your boat. As usual you have a hard time with anyone with an opinion different from your own and choose to lash out and attack the person not the opinion. Fill your boots.
That's rich given the only thing you have done with this entire topic is lash out at Scott.
As others have mentioned, your zealotry is preventing you from enjoying a a fun human interest story. The rest of the world was able to simply enjoy the moment and have fun with it. You should give it a try yourself. You can be a fan of the story without it cheapening your anti-fighting crusade. Scott being a popular guy at the all-star game isn't going to bring the enforcer/goon role back.
It was a great story and Scott acted like a great guy through the whole process, that being said I wonder how much love Scott will get the next time he seriously injures a guy, especially in the minors. I think it's funny that a few months ago if you would have asked any hockey fan what they think of Scott, they would have said more negative things about him and his actions and since all of this people will remember him as an amazing guy who's a real person.
This is a really good "feel good" story for the NHL and I'm glad it went over so well. I just hope Scott can actually continue to be like the person he was all weekend and not go back to the person that tried to seriously injure guys with dirty plays because if that happens people are going to point at the NHL and ask why they let him play.

I'm glad it worked out but I personally didn't enjoy his participation. I don't enjoy seeing players let up.
????
So he ruined the All Star game by others letting up? I guess I am a bit confused. Do you think players are giving it all out there normally at the All Star game? It's actually probably better that you just skip the All Star game every year as the players dog it pretty much the whole time.

I've lashed out at him the player. And surely you understand the difference between me attacking a player v how you treat fellow members of this board. Or maybe you don't.

Exactly. I had to login in for the first time in years just to echo this. JiriHrdina's ridiculous comments in this thread are beyond embarrassing. "I don't enjoy seeing players let up. For me sports is about playing the game the right way. Scott was given treatment not disimilar to letting a toddler score a goal against his dad. Even in an ASG I thought that was silly. "
One of the stupidest statements I have ever seen on this board.
I'm not the one likening a grown man to a toddler because I'm upset that someone I don't like did good, Jiri. Your arguments are clearly made from an emotional perspective, and I commented on exactly that.
I didn't watch the game, but I see that they showed on together a few times on the score card.
Gaudreau was terrific as usual, and Hall did his job—kept his stick on the ice and was ready to receive the pass. I thought there were a couple of times that he threw Gaudreau and Giordano off a bit, and it was cringe-worthy whenever he attempted something on his own.

you would think if he was such a dirty player as some people make him out to be, the majority of players wouldn't of treated him the way they did.
The guy has more suspensions then he does points, the guy has almost ended careers and I highly doubt everyone was in full support of having him there but what are they going to do? I'm pretty sure they didn't ask Loui Erickson what he thought about Scott... Just google John Scott and weed through all the All Star stuff and see what you find. The whole thing wasn't controversial because he was a "goon" it was because he's a dirty player. Check out any thread here on CP where he's been mentioned that isn't about the ASG and see what just about everyone thought of the guy...it's not that positive and people aren't bringing up that "he's a real person"

I'm looking to buy his All-Star jersey (replica), anyone know were I can get it?
It looks like nowhere. Which is honestly really dumb by the NHL. They'd probably be making a TON of money if they had some John Scott shirts/jerseys or whatever else available right now. But they have nothing.
