I get the feeling when Hamonic is traded he and Tepuba will be the main pieces. From what I have read the Trouba situation sounds very similar to Dougie in Boston. He wants $7+M long term to stay. Also rumblings that he really doesn't want to be there at all.

Chris Nichols @NicholsOnHockey
McKenzie: "I could see where they'd want to try and add one more guy for that third pairing" on defense, via trade. #Caps

Yah, I'm getting the same vibe from the Trouba negotiations as the Hamilton one. Stand firm on a high amount hoping to force a trade from the team. It's all speculation on my part. But I think it's a win-win for both sides if Hamonic and Trouba get swapped, similar to the Johanssen Jones deal.

After we burned the caps last year in the Glencross trade they will be weary of making a trade with us. Just my opinion.

I've always wondered if GM's think that way and become wary of trading with a particular team. Don't most teams have their own book on each individual player in the league? I can only assume that the Caps would've known what they were getting. It's not like Flames were hiding Glencross. His inconsistency would be well known.

I think Brian McLellan has got to be in the running for GM of the year, so he's learned pretty quick this season.
That being said, i think they go for it this year and do make a trade for a good roster player to bolster their lineup.

No NHL GM is that foolish. Otherwise he wouldn't be in the NHL.
To think that one GM wouldn't want to make a trade with another team/GM simply because a previous trade didn't work would be utterly short sighted.
These guys are smart enough to know the risks of the trades they are making. Further, they evaluate each trade on its own merits. If any GM, or hockey personel, would not make a trade based simply on the outcome of a previous trade one year ago, he should be fired. The Caps window to win is now. They are looking for assets to help them win a cup, if the Flames have an asset that helps the Caps, I'm certain they won't give a damn about Curtis Glencross or that second round pick they gave up a year ago.
If Brian McClellan is scared of making a trade with the Calgary Flames, he shouldn't be an NHL GM.

Russell would be a great fit in Washington, IMO. I could see him going there for their 2nd round pick.
I don't believe they'd have the space for either of Wideman or Smid.

Trouba won't be going anywhere I don't think. Him and Buff playing together has been a great pairing. The real switch has been from signing Ladd and maybe Buff, to signing Buff and Ladd being traded. I don't know if it is still the lingering sports hernia injury for Ladd but he just hasn't looked the same this year. He's a great player, but 6 million is a lot for him, not to mention coming off such a mediocre year. Most likely I think Ladd is gone, and if any defenceman is traded it will be Toby, probably to an Eastern team, as he is just too weak to play in the West night in and out.

2nd and a 3rd. But thats just semantics. Didnt say they wouldn't make a trade just said weary of making one with Calgary. Of course they are going to nake a push this year. To say they didnt learn from the glencross trade would be short sighted.

Not picking on you but feel the need to ask in this thread:
How are the Flames paying for all these players people want to acquire?
Giordano, Monahan's new deal, Gaudreau's new deal, Bennett will need one, Hamilton being paid, Brodie still making good money, a new #1 goalie is needed...

No way. We'll need a good young player on an elc for a few years not someone we can't afford to keep
