Sorry, I've not read this whole thread and live in a vacuum of hockey news--has Wideman publicly commented on what happened? What is his alibi?

I buy that he didn't see him until the last second, but you can't do that

Hot water with who exactly? The NHL's stance on concussions is pitiful. They are brazenly unconcerned with doing anything about head injuries. Concussion spotters are not doctors and have no actual authority. They might as well just send a press release saying they will pretend to watch for concussions in an effort to appease the public's concern for head injuries.

I can't make up my mind on this.

Guilty. Innocent. Guilty. Innocent.

Wideman is my new Steven Avery.

The media should be ashamed for sensationalizing something out of nothing.

This wasn't a defensive move in his part. He was skating slowly towards the bench, the linesman wasn't moving, he suddenly exploded into him. I get that he was probably dazed and may not have realized it was a linesman, but it was an aggressive move and possibly suspension worthy if it had been a player.

He commented yesterday,

"Wideman said the collision was "completely unintentional" and apologized to Henderson during the next TV timeout."

"I took a pretty good hit down in the corner and had some pretty good pain in my shoulder and neck," Wideman said. "I was just trying to get off the ice and kind of keeled over. At the last second, I looked up and saw (Henderson) and couldn't avoid it. I went up to Donnie and apologized to him on the ice."

I'm baffled by how many people are baffled at Wideman's actions. Is a professional athlete lashing out violently in frustration such shocking and unprecedented behaviour?

While that is how I initially viewed the incident myself, the fact that there is split viewpoints just about everywhere should make you consider that the great CliffFletcher's viewpoint isn't the only one out there.

I don't even recall a time when Wideman took out frustration on an opponent.

Guy was dazed, and mistook the Zebra for a Predator. The way he executed the hit was exactly as you would a normal cross-check "chip" after the play.

Sure he will claim he was concussed and made a booboo, but even as a Flames fan, I'd expect at least 5 games, if not 10.

When Kesler shot the puck into an empty net after a game was over this season, Wideman went and pummeled him.

This is probably repetitive, but my take is that the feet movement late shows the surprise and that it wasn't premeditated. So I don't buy the completely knew what he was doing argument.

However, I think he was generally pissy about getting hit in the corner, and then annoyed that the official was in his way and surprised him, and that's where I think he did shove the guy out of anger.

If he hunted him down it's 20 ... didn't
But he did push him once surprised ... so suspend him

his only way out is dazed from the hit wasn't thinking plea.

No way he did it maliciously.

As Bingo said, the late feet movement dance to his right shows even if he did see the ref he wasn't expecting him to be in his way.

Brodie was jumping on the ice, he wanted off as he was already behind the play.

His hands up with his stick is typical hockey player defensive position when you're gonna run into something or someone.

The shove at the end is what gets him the suspension. How many times have you been breaking up the wing and the puck get caught in the linesmens skates and you curse either under your breath or heard some players curse at him. I think at the factors leading up would lead to the accidental contact turning into a "Get the F outta the way" kinda thing.

He needs to get 5 games , because its a ref, because he needs to be in control and aware, and because there's no previous history to suggest this was anything but a crappy situation.
