On the other side of the coin, I'm finding that Granlund looks increasingly overwhelmed out there as the games go by. It's not as though he's detrimental to the team or anything but he just looks a step behind most of the time and just generally ineffective.
Granlund's been pretty bad the entire call up aside from the first 2 games. As is his MO.

If the NHL was a 3-5 game season he'd be a superstar

It's disappointing that he has not improved any of his deficiencies from last year. Still seems weak and overwhelmed. I'd be fine with swapping him out for Grant. He is better suited for a bottom 6 role.

May as well throw this in here too. Board battles. The Flames don't win many. Smaller players going into the corners and being pushed around.

I noticed that too. I'd love to see Gaudreau and Monahan doing that all game long and not just in the last part of the 3rd period when things are desperate.

With all the talk about Karlsson in the other thread, last night was a clinic in how to play defense by Weber. If you have it on PVR, watch it again focusing on him. His ability to keep the other team to the outside and away from the high danger areas is quite impressive. His ability to impose his will physically is something that is becoming more and more rare these days.

On the flip side of that, watching Bennett battle with him, and continually take Weber on and go after him, was absolutely outstanding. Most forwards just turn away from his physical pressure, but 19yearoldSamBennett just kept going after him and hitting him again. Weber isn't used to that from most guys and was actually getting pissed off.

It was a fun battle to watch.

What a BORING season this has been to be a Flames fan.

I'd say I'm watching about 50% of the games to completion after starting them and I'm only watching about 75% of the games so far.

Just awful hockey.

Agree. It's a bit off topic, but I've never understood how people could choose Karlsson or Subban over Weber for the Norris.

Doughty is in the same boat as Weber. Ridiculously good defensemen, but his games are past the Eastern media's bedtime so they don't watch him play.

Yup but EE was pretty much predicting the Flames would be a bottom 5 team right to the very end.

Anyways he stuck to his guns this season and boy was he ever right.

I'm going to live forever. Hopefully that's long enough to see the Flames win a cup.

Agreed, in years past I was glued to the TV, this year I'm half engaged or not at all.

I agree with all of the above. However is there a guy in the league that gets away with more cross checks/stick infractions than Weber? The guy is a beast no doubt, but he looks like a friggin lumberjack out there. He has the size and strength to be effective without that, but i feel he takes the stick work a bit far. It is straight conjecture but i feel that almost any other dman would be called on a lot of those plays.

I've stopped watching at this point. I know who they're playing over the next few weeks and fully expect most of the games to be boring. I know they're in a slump again and unless Johnny creates a couple of goals out of thin air, they're going to lose to some feeble defensive breakdown or weak goal.

I really hope management haven't been deluded by last season and think we are anywhere close to being out of this rebuild. Hell, it's looking like we're gonna be one of those teams that has to do an ancillary miniature blow-up before we get the real deal. Not much left in the prospect pool, with only two floundering former first rounders and a couple of decent D prospects, yet the big team barely has a single NHL-caliber forward line.

agreed. We need a gem to come for our team. I have a feeling mangiopane could be one.

He lacks size. I think if he could bulk up in the off season he might be a lot more effective.

I never stop watching, these are Calgary Flames. I have seen the Flames through a lot worse times than this. I think we are on the right track, this is not some video game where you can make changes at the press of the button.

Kinda how I feel as well.

The last few weeks have sucked the interest in this team right out of me. So tired of watching the "dead wood" veterans (Won't name names as we all have our own list).

I know they will keep up their talk about making the playoffs for a while yet and that's fine. At this point I'm looking forward to the decisions they make on the UFA's - who they sign/let walk/trade. Also would be excited to see a call up or two. It might not solve anything but some calls ups would at least keep me interested. A call up would bring some energy to this disinterested bunch as well
