Have they said in person hearing yet? Not that I know of.
And it's possible, yes. I would hope the NHL doesn't jump to conclusions like a lot of posters here.

probably because there isn't really a suspension yet

I'm sure you could get his side of the story over the phone.

You expect him to say he meant to?
At this point what he says doesn't really matter.

I find it funny that I actually turned out to be correct in my assumptions. See, most trolls typically argue in favour of something ridiculous/stupid, where in fact the thing I was arguing towards was based with valid points and hey, he ended up getting suspended.

How angry will you be when they announce the suspension?

I think they are just recognizing that it is a complicated issue and don't want to make a rushed decision on it.
I do think he gets a some kind of token punishment, but I will be really disappointed if they punish it as a deliberate act.

If it's a phone hearing it can only be 5 games or less. They have to offer an in person hearing for more.
I'm not sure if that also applies in this situation though.

To me it makes sense to lock this thread and continue the conversation with the new info in the other thread

Has it been confirmed to be in person
and before getting too smug maybe we should wait for the actual suspension

I just sent a tweet to Dreger, awaiting a response.

Most likely "suspended indefinitely" has more to do with the ASG than the severity of the penalty.

Not angry at all, but I will think it's ridiculous. It will be another example of what a joke the discipline in the NHL is.

Pure speculation: I think Wideman is not 100%. He might be hurt, or his head is someplace else.
Jokes aside, a suspension might force him to take some time off and get 100%.

If they just wanted to talk to him I'd imagine they could have already done that but who knows, maybe they are just that busy right now and don't have the time.

I think it's more to do with they don't want the decision to overshadow the ASG.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC 3m3 minutes ago
1) Two things on Wideman hearing. First, I'd expect he'd be offered the opportunity to be there in person to explain his case....

2) Health of linesman Don Henderson important factor. Went to hospital for precautionary reasons, now home -- thankfully. Will he miss time?

True. But if they have already announced a suspension, the odds that Campbell reverses and lifts the suspension without a game is rather small.

Maybe they did add one last night? I didn't check. If they though what Wideman did was intentional, they should have.

A few things.
First, no match penalties did not replace gross misconducts. Though abuse of officials was formerly a gross misconduct, it is now - like all infractions that fell under that rule - a game misconduct. And no, the referees cannot simply add a game misconduct penalty at the end of the game. What they can do is file a report with the league. That has the same practical effect of what you are now arguing, but it still does not retroactively apply a penalty to the game sheet.

Ever been hit in the face with a ball? You lose your surroundings and reaction time momentarily. He may not have been concussed, I don't think the Flames would let a guy play if he showed any signs of a concussion.
