I like both players but I don't think they're worth what it will cost to acquire them in a trade or free agency.

Especially if they lose Buff and Ladd for nothing ... Things are looking grim in Winnipeg.

This.
I see Boston most likely going after Russell the hardest.
Their 2nd + would be a solid return for his services.

Maybe they play swat the mosquito together in the summer time, bosom buddies.
Probably the only reliable info Dreger gets is from the Peg.
More likely Snow will hold things up indirectly, because Jets have to be very interested in Hamonic. It would be convenient is either Ladd or Buff + could get them Hamonic.

Islanders won't trade Hamonic for rentals.

Russell might garner a 2nd by himself, but considering the suitor I would try and add from the Calgary side in order to snag one of those firsts.
If it does come down to a 2nd, I would ask for a project player like Brian Ferlin back as the salary balancer. He's a big RW who looks to be a smart bottom six shutdown guy. Stajan as a RW (feistier Colborne?), with good hockey sense. He was injured in the preseason, and lost half a season of development.
I don't think high ceiling prospect is on the table for them. They seem to be playing the "win now at the NHL level, load up prospects for three years from now", game (after 6 top 60 picks last year). Prospects 23-24 years of age might be gettable.

You don't have to be Garth Snow to know the islanders won't give up Hamonic for a rental.
The only way Hamonic is traded for one of Ladd or Buff is if it happens right now to make sense.

I think Russell could get us 2 seconds by himself. The older prospect talk worries me. I remember Feaster talking about that when Cindari and Hanowski were part of the refunds on trades. Get picks now and use as currency later.

From most of what you read in this thread common sense is not welcomed or appreciated. Its the thread where common sense goes to die. Often times very painfully.

I think a more realistic scenario would be the Jets committing big money and term to Buff, and as a result are forced to trade Trouba for a more cap friendly Hamonic.

'+' = 'plus'
I didn't propose a straight trade so not sure you can so definitely pooh pooh it.
If Snow gets those guys and a little extra for Hamonic and Isles win a cup, its unlikely any NYI fan will lose too much sleep over losing Travis.
Trade might have some money balancing to make thing work. The + would be a pick (2nd) or prospect.
IMO he can't expect to get much more than that given only about 3 teams fit the description of where Hamonic wants to play.

The plus would have to be more than a second round pick. Sure, Hamonic wants to go to 1 of 3 teams but the team doesn't have to trade him if they don't get the return they want. I'm sure they will but they could just keep him and see what happens (likely wouldn't end up good for them).
I agree that I could see Trouba for Hamonic though.
