Moronic All Star Game Suspensions
Jonathan Toews left the 'Hawks' last game, vs. Carolina, with an illness, and will now also skip the crappy ASG...for doing this, Toews will be suspended for the Ground Hog Day game in Denver.
Ovechkin, too, will have to eat a game suspension, due to an undisclosed injury.
Sheer stupidity, because of a useless exhibition.

I didn't know Ovi was hurt, I thought he was just skipping it?

I get it though. If you don't have this, a bunch of guys get "injured" right before. I don't mind it.

I also agree with the 1 game suspension. Makes sure guys don't fake injuries to get out of it. Similar to 3 play rule in CFL when a player goes down.
If a player is genuinely hurt or sick it won't matter because they'd have missed a game anyway.
Everyone knows half the players just want the week off. Missing one game is totally worth it.

Was it was stupid when it was divisional rivals like Datsyuk and Lidstrom getting suspended back in 2009...or is it just an issue because it is Toews now?
If you are injured enough to miss the all-star game then you are injured enough to miss a regular season game.
I get why the NHL does it, don't need 10 guys dropping out of the game because they don't feel like going.

come on now...if the Hawks had a game Sunday he would be playing, everyone knows the rules I don't think illness on a Tuesday excuses you from a game the following Sunday

from the NHL's perspective though, they want thier most marketable guys there to rub shoulders with the suits.

Its a known rule. I'm sure they both could play if they wanted to.
If both team's were safe in playoff spots - they would have played and not gotten the suspension.
I somehow doubt Toews would have left Chicago's last game if it had been close instead of 5-0 heading into the 3rd.

These guys make millions of dollars and they can't play a 3on3 game one weekend? Give me a break. I don't like the all-star game at all but they should have to go unless the injury is actually serious. It's disrespectful to the fans who ultimately are the only reason they're employed.

But so many people on here were whining how important the all-star game is to so many guys so the John Scott nomination was going to make them upset.
Turns out, not so important. Shocking.

If Toews was feeling sick before the game he could have not dressed last night and not be suspended as he would have missed the 1 game.
He decided he would play.
Don't see the problem.

It is a dumb rule, but it is pretty much a necessary dumb rule because the players continually begged out for increasingly minor issues. As meaningless as the game itself is, the ASG is a money generating event that has a material impact on league-wide player salaries. The least they could do is show up. Toews, however, is going to suffer for the attitudes of his peers. So perhaps the NHLPA should be the target of ire here, not the NHL.

Its a silly but necessary rule. And of course the NHL takes the ASG seriously, its almost pure gravy.

I don't blame these guys for doing it. Nice time to take a little mid-season vacation with family and friends. Rest up some bumps before the second half push.
