Absolutely deliberate and deserves at least 20 games... If it was an accident he should have immediately bent down, helped the guy up and apologized. What an idiot

That was no accident, and quite frankly it's hilarious how close this poll is. His anger and frustration from getting rocked caused him to in a split second make that stupid decision to take out said frustration on whatever was in front of him: The Linesman
Ya this is kind of what I thought. Add the fact that he follows through to hit him with his arms and also the fact that he completely ignores the linesman after the hit. If it was accidental I feel like he would have reacted a bit differently. I've watched the play two times so maybe I'm missing something but to me it didn't look like a complete accident.

Maybe I'm missing something, but didn't a Flames player come on the ice before Wideman got off the ice, hence why the Predators were complaining about too many men?
While it's ultimately up to the league to determine which if any measures Wideman will be subject to, Wednesday's incident involving Henderson would appear to fall under Category II.
Wideman addressed the incident following the game, telling reporters he saw Henderson too late to avoid contact.
“I was just trying to get off the ice," Wideman said. "And, at the last second, I looked up and saw him,” said Wideman post-game. “I couldn’t avoid it. I didn’t know where to go or how to get out of the way of him.”
Wideman also said he apologized to Henderson and called it "completely unintentional."
Given the video evidence, Wideman may have a tough sell on his hands.

Watching live I thought this was an accident, also wanted to give Dennis the benefit of the doubt, despite how awful he's been I have a soft spot for the Wide-dog.
After watching replays it's pretty clearly intentional, yikes, should be 10+ games? There isn't really a standard for cross checking a linesman.
I think it likely was an "accident" in only the sense that he didn't go "I'm angry; time to cross check the linesman!"
I do think he was VERY dazed and disoriented, but that really doesn't make this situation better. It really just transfers the blame, as what were the Flames doing putting him back on the ice after getting his bell rung badly enough to have lost his marbles like that? I don't have a detailed knowledge of the concussion protocol, but that kind of situation merits investigation by the medical staff, and it looked like they just put him back out there.

It is very easy to be dazed and disoriented without incurring a concussion.

Kind of surprised this thread got to 18 pages. Maybe it was intentional, maybe it wasn't, but at the end of the day I doubt any Flames fan really cares if Wideman is suspended. Hartley should have "suspended" him a while ago to try and light a fire under him.
So if Wideman does intend to viciously crosscheck him, how come it looks like Wideman hops backwards a little bit before contact? If his intent was to truly crosscheck him why alter his course at all, why not just skate through his check?
I cant believe some people think this was an accident... wow
The league will make the right decision .... this will be a case where the majority (if the poll results stand) , will be wrong .... Denis Wideman is innocent ....

Regardless of intent, if Wideman wants to stay on his skates he has to move his feet over at least a little bit. You can't skate where someone is currently, or soon to be, laying on the ice. Especially when you're trying to get off the ice because your teammate has already hopped over the boards and joined the play.
Wideman was careful to say during the post-game interview that it was "neck and shoulder" pain (which isn't out of the realm of possibility looking at the hit itself). No mention of having his bell rung, or that he did (or should have) gone under the concussion protocol.
The point still stands -- if he's pre-occupied with his neck/shoulder and isn't really paying attention, he isn't going to notice the linesman backing into him, or the play coming up ice right at him.
I'm probably more fascinated by how CP has been almost split 50/50 on this (although the "suspend him" group is starting to pull ahead). For all the people that are 100% certain it was intentional, there's an equal number who 100% disagree with you (or at least don't think he should be suspended).

The league will probably ask the linesman that was hit and the other officials what their opinion is.
And it seems pretty obvious that if any of the officials thought for a second that it was intentional, Wideman would have been ejected from the game. The fact that he didn't even get a penalty speaks volumes.
But let the internet warriors and hashtag activists have their fun.

The way his head hit the glass could be neck and shoulder pain, due to minor whiplass.
