I did this last year and it worked out, but, I feel like for sure that the Jets have nailed their coffin closed. Hopefully this speeds up Chevy being punted out as a GM, and he can read Cottage Life magazine full time. Like he does now. At least not being paid for it by the Jets and their fans.

The organization has been very patient but that team should be further ahead at this stage of their development as their core players are approaching or at their prime and they are 2nd last in the Conference. I get that the division is tough but that team should be better than where they are.
The only thing you can say good about the GM is that under him the drafting has been good but the team hasn't progressed and that's on him and how long do you attach yourself to a GM that can't get his team over the hump? Is he really in danger of being fired? It seems like he's got a Teflon suit.

I would not go that far. Letting go of Frolik and Stempniak were foolish moves. Not doing anything with Ladd and Byfuglien and their contracts, was not only stupid to leave them in limbo, but sent a message that the organization was frugal, and not willing to field a competitive team.
Now we will get virtually nothing for Ladd, as there is little interest. Byfuglien is a game changer, and he is in high demand, especially for a Stanley Cup contender. I don't want to get rid of him, but if the price is right, we may have to part with him in order to fix holes in other positions (offensive depth, left paiing D-man, etc.).
For all we know, it could be Maurice that has been the bigger problem, especially putting our rookies (Ehlers and Petan), with a bunch of journeymen. Who knows what Petan would have been capable with better linemates. He could still turn out to be Winnipeg's version of Gaudreau.

This will be the first season since 1969-70 that no Canadian team make the playoffs. Those standings are depressing, especially knowing that the last time a Canadian team hoisted the cup was 23 years ago.

Chevy is not even close to being fired. True North has a history of loyalty, so I suspect it would take another season of being dead last in the Conference, for his job to seriously be in jeopardy.

One has to wonder when the next Canadian team will win a cup. Looking at the landscape it's not looking very good for the foreseeable future.

The Cup prospects look grim, but I think either the Habs or Canucks will find a way to make the playoffs this season....unfortunately.

I laugh every time I hear a Jet fan say this. Not sure how you ever got that impression but his skill set is nothing like Gaudreau's.
He's small, so there's that - is that the point? Hoping Petan becomes Gaudreau is like hoping Ferland will become Bobby Hull.

I'm actually surprised how bad the Jets have been. I expected them to be equal or better than last year.

I think the Senators have a better chance than the Habs.

Worst possible scoreboard. Stick a fork in us methinks. 8 points back and needing to pass 3 pacific teams. Not gonna happen.
Surprisingly sportsclubstats has us at 13.8% chance of making the playoffs still.
