Default Bell Canada cash grab.

The change will drop a $55 installation fee for new customers, but add $0.80 to the monthly telephone bills of Bell's eight million customers.

Im not sure if anyone in CP land is using Bell or not...if so email the CRTC to complain if you think this is just a cash grab.
CRTC complaints

Here is a canned complaint if you wish to copy and paste...

I would like to voice my DEEP displeasure about Bell Canada's plan to
replace an installation fee for new users with a monthly rate increase
for everyone.

Anyone desiring this new connection can provide the fee required as
opposed to a simple money grab by Bell Canada.

While I agree with you Cheese, if it were me I would simply just change providers. Nothing says I disagree with your bussiness practices than to stop doing bussiness with them.

well that sounds simple....but so far there is no other provider that can provide me with the combination of Long Distance in Canada, Overseas, Family Plan and local calling c/w Cell/Computer home phone packages as Bell.

yea, but once one starts, they all follow. Best to lodge complaints and then pull out to another provider. I wouldn;t stick around either but I sure would be kicking and screaming about it in the mean time!

so if they are the only company who can provide a service to you, it is hardly a cash grab. business exists to grab as much cash as they can and since you are recieving a service that no one else can provide for you, you should be grateful they made the investment to be able to provide the service.

you think they should invest billions in infrastructure and then not be able to charge for it?

hey no problem getting paid...the same way they are now...by those who want the service. Pay the connection fee like I did. If they propose to billme for future connection costs by YOU...then refund me my connection money first.

Maybe some of you old folks can help me with this but when you were young were you promised that you will get all sorts of subsidies and discounts as a senior so that you could save less for your retirement. Why do these seniors always feel entitled to special treatment. (But you will sure see them up in arms if someone else re: immigrants gets some sort of special treatment)

I need a politician to say F you seniors.

Sorry for the rant.
Thats ok sonny...we seniors do it just to **** you young'uns off...now get back to work and pay your taxes so I can retire on my Canada Pension fund. larf!

Makes sense... otherwise you're double-paying for the same installation service.

I have a feeling that your tune will change dramatically once you become a senior!

A lot of seniors have fixed incomes, and in case you are unaware, they grew up in a time much, much, different than this one. World Wars, the Depression... and you're complaining because they get a discount? They didn't exactly have the same oppurunities afforded today, if you bothered to talk to a senior you might not appear so ignorant.

I don't know how you can compare senior citizens to immigrants. It's not like seniors can just go out and get a job, they've worked their whole lives. Does the concept of inflation ring a bell? While their incomes stay the same?

I have a feeling that you do not have any grandparents, which is sad and unfortunate for you.

I'm suprised you didn't throw in a 'they died in the war for you' argument that would be just as irrelevant. War vets should get all the discounts. Being old doesn't automatically make you a great sacrificing person who has gone through a life of hardship. I imagine old people are like everyone else, a few great ones and whole lots of not-so-great ones.

Did you even read the article. It was about bell adding a fee, and this guy ads in 'and you think they could give a seniors discount'. That has nothing to do with it. Isn't he embarassed to asking for that publicly, what happened to that pride that you hear about seniors having vast amounts of.

I am all for going to the end of the world to help people but the second that they say "should have given me more, cheapskate", is when they should get none.
So, people who need help and ask for it, shouldn't get anything? I think it took a lot of guts for him to say that publicly, so obviously it's a big deal for him. I don't think saying this makes him a cheapskate, but rather Bell for NOT giving them a discount. People will read that and start asking themselves, why don't they give discounts out for seniors? Well, those of the public that actually have a conscience and don't lump seniors and immigrants into the same category.

You know, seniors died in the wars for you, the least you could do is show them some respect.

Not to nitpick, but it's pretty unlikely that an current seniors died in any war for us.

Sure they may have fought in it, but I'd bet not one current senior died fighting in WWII.

Telus is coming...

Stupid move before Telus does too... Thought Telus just took the Government of Ontario contract right out from under Bell's nose, so likely this is to offset that major loss.

Well Bell has the government of Alberta Contract. Not the same of course. But Telus will end up leasing 90% of the lines from Bell anyways.
