Maybe, it's just me but that seemed pretty dramatic considering it's Calgary.
Hearing many gunshots and police teams feeling the pressure and tightening up against eachother behind a garage is pretty dramatic in the city I crew up in. We're not Compton, I didn't expect to see officers running and dropping from gunshot wounds.

It appears the police shot the suspect.
Quote:
Sources say the suspect is dead and it’s believed police opened fire on him.
The incident began shortly before 5 p.m. when police were called to the north Calgary community, near 78 Ave. and 10 St. N.W., upon reports of shots fired.
Police said they received no reports of injuries from this initial incident

Doesn't sound like anyone besides the shooter was harmed. We know anything about that?
What a weird incident. Motive? Targets?

Police were called to Huntington Hill's around 4:40 pm after shot narrowly missed transit driver driving bus
Situation escalated when suspect left residence
Police had previous experience with suspect, but not gang related
Suspect was actively engaging police and neighbourhood, bullet hit transit bus that was parked near home suspect was shooting from.

Strange story, luckily no one was hurt (other than the gunman).
Seems like CPS handled this entire thing like all-stars. Locked down the community, told everyone to stay in basements, and took care of the perpetrator. It good to know Calgary police are well prepared for active shooter situations. Great job.

This just got bizarre.
I don't doubt the officers did what they had to in order to make the situation safe (full disclosure: I come from a family of RCMP/CPS for at least 3 generations so yes, I am bias), but the guy was a quadriplegic who was fired upon when leaving the house, which I presume would be in a wheelchair or some sort of electronic mover. And he was somehow able to shoot at the police and transit. That part is a little odd.
There's definitely a lot more to this story to come out.

What do you mean?
Think you're just piecing this together poorly.
It started with him firing from his home, one could safely assume that is when he hit the parked bus with a spray of gunfire. Police Chief Roger Chaffin described the initial shootings as "indiscriminate". If McQueen was firing from his home at first, he could have just closed his door and stayed inside after that.
Quote:
Police Chief Roger Chaffin called the incident “extremely dynamic and unique” and said shots were fired “indiscriminately” from the home before the officer-involved shooting.
|
Once the police came, narrowed where the shooting came from that's when the stand off began. More random shooting at the police and anyone else around him (Stay in your god damn basements everyone, crazy guy shooting in every which direction)
Quote:
“The suspect in this case was actively engaging us and the neighbourhood with a firearm,” Chaffin said on Monday morning.
|
Quote:
Police quickly descended on the northwest neighbourhood and officers set up containment while shots continued to be fired from the home.
|
Guy eventually exits his home, gunfight with officers begins, dude goes down. Could have just wheeled himself out the front door and started shooting.
It all makes sense rather easily. Transit shooting started things, shootout ended it.

If you're quadriplegic, doesn't that mean you have no use of your arms and legs? How was he able to fire a gun?
Sadly, this sounds like a case of "suicide by cop".

He's a quadriplegic. I don't imagine they operate firearms and exit buildings with the greatest of ease. Both at once seems rather impossible without some sort of assistance.
That's the part where I'm sure there was more to the story.
EDIT: To make it perfectly clear, I'm speculating he must of had some sort of rigged up device to do this because the probability of a quadriplegic firing a weapon while exiting a residence is pretty much nil. I imagine even if he was a paraplegic, wheeling yourself out and firing would be difficult.
