Yup. Exactly what was expected from what we have seen this season. Simply not a good hockey team. We have 5 players. This rebuild has a scary long way to go. This sucks.
We need offense, defense and a goalie.... were almost there! ... ....
I hope this doesn't sound too wet blankety, but this is the team we have. Every team gets blown out and every team has great games. The difference between a mediocre team and an elite team isn't how good they are when they're on, it's how consistently they're good.
They have a good game against Florida and people think "great! They've turned a corner!", or "if it wasn't for this stretch out that stretch they'd be in the playoffs". If you look at a team through forty some games, you can't skip the first 15 because they were awful because it tells you they're going to be awful again at some point.
The Flames are who their record days they are at this point. An 80ish point team. About where they were 2 years ago and that's frustrating

That's your typically overly negative way of looking at it. I see a great many pieces in place and a high draft this year will fill one of the few remaining.

What the hell Flames? I have remained optimistic of a playoff spot all season but am now starting to realise the season is over.
Also, people realise there is no city called Carolina and the Canes and Panthers play over 250km from each other right? Still not sure whey the NHL schedules games in the Southern US on NFL semi-final day though, there would be poor crowds everywhere.

I dunno about scary long. We've got some really good pieces entering or in their prime. We need one more top two line forward, one more top four defenseman and a starting goalie. One of those should be solved this upcoming draft.

This team just doesn't work hard enough right now. I was really hoping that we'd see a leadership transition this year, but its not happening.
Earned not given seems to be a long time in the past, there are way too many passengers every night. I would hope that BT finds a way to dump off some of the veteran contracts this year, and begins to transition some of the farm players up.
Josh Jooris I love his energy but he's an offense killer in the opposition zone.
This team played like it was the last game before the all star break and then put in some effort in the second and third, but when the canes scored that fourth goal they folded their tents and pouted for the rest of the game.

Management really needs to come to grips with the veterans this team wants to build around. A whole bunch of inconsistent efforts it seems to me. Hard to figure out what the core of the team is outside of the obvious choices.
And Hamilton is just not impressing me that much lately. see the potential but he is still a long ways from earning the contract he signed. Hoping for a giant leap forward next year.
Sucks losing to teams whose fans would rather watch stinkin' football on their recliners than show up to their team's game.
We were really fragile and mistake prone in that one. Shaky goaltending too. Shades of October...
Are you absolutely kidding with that? I've taken shots at southern fanbases at times, but the comparative here would be the Flames playing in game 7 of the western conference finals at the Saddledome and then calling Calgarians crappy football fans because there was a Stamps game with poor attendace at the same time at McMahon.
You would have to understand that, right? That "stinkin' football" game features the Carolina Panthers punching their ticket to the Superbowl; You know that thing that's the biggest sporting event in the United States?
I'm not too disappointed with the season thus far. This is what happens when 2 of your most important players from last year are essentially no-shows as of yet.
Hudler and Wideman went from having their best seasons of their careers to arguably their worst since becoming full-time NHLers.
Hudler on pace for a 48 point season. His worst since 2010-11 when he had 37 in 73 games, followed by 2007-08 when he had 42 in 81 games.
If those 2 players are even back to playing their career average, our PP alone is much improved.
Not cheering for losses while watching but at this point Losses are better than wins for long term success
Really? Yeah a high draft pick would be nice but short of absolutely tanking, is it really proven that one or two spots higher in the draft equal better success? Would you trade that for success and a winning culture? Losing is losing. Period.

I don't think this is a choice that the Flames will have this season.

Every spot higher has a better chance of getting you a star player, it's proven by the stats.
There's benefits to losing (draft pick) and benefits to winning (morale, habits). Hard to say which is best long term.
In the end we'll end up where we end up and we'll have 3 chances at a top 3 pick. Trade deadline will be very interesting and we may see a lot more youngsters after that.
Losing on purpose, or coaching to lose is the worst possible approach even if it results in a high draft pick. Look at Buffalo and Edmonton.
Playing the best you can and to win is where you have to be. While playoff hopes dwindle, I wonder if management will start to look at coaching staff which are clearly doing a great job. Loved how pissed off Hartley got today.
We are clearly suffering from goaltending issues in such a bad way.
