Nothing more to see here, Cox made an ass of himself, then apologized...the system works

That wasn't an apology. That was just PR.
Apologies have 'sorry' and no 'buts'. You don't rationalize during an apology. You simply apologize.

Yep, that was damage control, not an apology.

He's too arrogant to make a real apology.

I'm surprised Cox wasn't fired over his comments. All he did in his apology was try and justify why he said the things that he did.

Cox, in my own opinion is the worst kind of journalist. He talks down to his audience. Opposing opinions often results in great debate. Cox, much like Mike Wilner, (Sportsnet employee that covers the Jays) treats those with opposing views like idiots, buffoons, or Neanderthals. Do yourself a favour like I did long ago - avoid there columns, unfollow them on Twitter, voice your opinion to their employer.

The original tweet is still there. It was posted January 20th at 10:25. I'm not sure what time zone that's in.

This doesn't surprise me. You're also the guy who votes for the least popular guy in all the jersey poles, just so you can stand out.

How is he NOT fired? What a stupid thing to say. I don't get how one can cover up something said on twitter. You have time to think about what you write and have to press Enter to publish it. Stupid if people buy his bullcrap excuse.

Which, if we're honest, is pretty much what we were all expecting from Damien Cox.

Yeah that's quite cruel.
He may have a point with his observations, but instead of coming at it from a perspective of compassion, he just belittles and insults the guy. Which is even worse if there actually is some truth to it.
And if there isn't any truth to the observation, it's just being mean.

If it's any consolation, I've found both him and Healy have had their presence scaled back on Sportsnet/HNIC.

It's weird to take a personal shot at McGrattan. Punching people in the face was his job but he seems like a pretty cool guy.

Exactly. His "apology" puts the responsibility on his target. If *you* were offended, then sorry. He seems to think he did nothing wrong.

He probably apologized in person... a true apology doesn't happen over Twitter or a "Tweet" that's social media PR...

I doubt it. If that's how he handles a public apology, I don't think he would be more sincere in person, seeing as how that sorry excuse for a public apology would undermine his private one. If I was McGrattan, I wouldn't even take his phone call after reading that load of garbage.

Cox thinks fighting is stupid and fighters are thugs. That's never going to change no matter how much he pretends to apologizes.

As poorly phrased and hyperbolic it was, Cox made sense.
In this day and age of CTE, mental illness and death, how can McGrattan simply say "meh, that's what it is and I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing".
What if it happens again?

How Healy still has a job is beyond me. I have tools in my garden shed that have more of insight into hockey than this guy! Way too many pucks to the head!

This sentiment permeates every TV segment he is a part of, and all the columns he writes.
He is a blowhard and I sincerely hope he gets fired and we never have to listen or hear about/from him forever.
