Yeah he strikes me as a guy who is a top 6 forward on bad teams, and not capable of being much else. Not good enough to be a scorer on a good team and not well rounded enough to be a two way player

Cap hits go down as those salaries are paid out through the season, teams cap space isn't prorated though. Two million of cap space day one is two million in February.
Teams won't need 4 million for Hudler, nor 2.6 for Russell. We're over halfway through the seasons, half their salaries are gone. For a team to add Hudler today they'd need 2 million, towards the deadline it diminishes down to about one. A deadline acquisition of Russell would only be a cap hit of under 900k. (rough estimates)

Plus team's have a lot more space at the deadline. According to general fanager, Arizona has 50 million in space at the deadline

3rd line forward and 2nd round pick is fair value.
I would offer Jones and 2nd. I think the Flames could make up that loss of a pick by selling Russell, Hudler, Wideman, etc.

If people don't like Baertschi I'm not sure they would like Pirri.

No, that's exactly how it does NOT work. The cap hits go down because you only have to pay the player for whatever is left of the season. The cap space does not go up. The way you try to do it, you account for the same effect twice and come up with a bogus number.

It is believed that Tampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman has inquired about Vancoucer Canucks F Bo Horvat in exchange for disgruntled F Jonathan Drouin.

I think General Fanager's numbers are just a different way of conceptualizing the same thing - the $50M is given as the total AAV of contracts that the team can take on, essentially inflating the cap space rather that proportionately decreasing the cap hit, as AAVs are readily ascertainable.

I'd be pretty surprised if the Nucks' moved Horvat. He is our version of Bennett.

Drouin is an appealing player but that is a big ask from Steve Yzerman. Horvat means a lot to the Canucks and this tells me that Yzermans price might be a bit high for Drouin.

This needs to happen. Drouin was born to be a Canuck.

Not sure if already discussed, but what would be realistic expectations if Minnesota intended to reunite Grandlunds ?
I know how many people here tend to hate the "Not skilled enough for top 6 and not tough enough for bottom 6" cliche and for a good reason (in today's NHL). I can't help but I see Baertschi v 2.0 in him.
What about 2nd round pick and a prospect ?

Would actually love it if the Granlund brothers could be reunited in Calgary. Not sure if Minnesota would be interested in Hudler.

Minnesota sends us a 2nd and a prospect for Granlund?
Not sure any team would be willing to send us a 2nd for Granlund. Maybe Minnesota is that one team. I certainly don't think they'd add a prospect but you never know.
I don't think his value is that high until he shows he can produce at the NHL level unless some scout has seen him at his best in the AHL and is a big believer. I would think his current value is around a 3rd rounder if I had to guess.
