The Balzac one got picked up by Sobey's the last that I remembered.

Also on the way to the former Target warehouse there's a range road that literally passes right by the Walmart one.

Family friend is helping set it up as a Sobey's warehouse. Sobey's is collapsing their supply chain model to fewer large warehouses. /halfcutChristmasdinnerconversation

Pretty old (June 2015 I think) and public news.

Grocery giant Sobeys is buying the massive 1.3-million-square-foot Target distribution centre in Rocky View County near Balzac, the Herald has learned.

Court documents indicate the deal is worth $50 million and is part of the process of Target Canada divesting its interests as it exits the country. The deal closes some time this month.

David Kalinchuk, economic development manager at Rocky View County, said the county is very happy that Sobeys is going to take over that “great facility.

To add to the trivia knowledge

Walmart started in the area by building a frozen food distribution center. Target then opened their distribution center. Walmart recently opened a second distribution center in Balzac for their non frozen items. Now Sobeys is about to open the former target site as their Center.

The region is becoming a logistics hub. Costco has a distribution center in Airdrie. And GFS foods created a new warehouse just north of the warehouse built by target.

Strangest coincidence: Meat packing plant is about to reopen and it is just down the road from the new racetrack..

Funny as it sounds this was sort of predicted to me in 1989, I was golfing in a tourney with a guy who had just sold a bunch of farm land to the province for a proposed highway that would go around the city. He said he had seen early plans on the project and I'll never forget him saying "that garbage land around Balzac will be valuable someday because of this road, probably industrial because of access to north, east and west from the city."

I often wondered if he was in on the building of projects around there and maybe even the X-Iron mall(which came out of nowhere).
