Good way to get some clicks. Flames jump into 1st but Leafs get Matthews.

This is the first time I've seen Puljujarvi ahead of Matthews. THN are some thick headed idiots who put way too much stock in World Junior performance.

For clarity this is THW not THN.

I take Matthews as well or try and trade the pick to the Coyotes for their mid 1st and Strome. I could see Arizona going all in to get a superstar that was born and raised in Arizona

I think it's close. Puljujarvi reminds me of Ovechkin, though not as good a sniper.

Magazines are now tampering with draft orders to prevent the Oilers from getting the best guy at #1. Smart.

I keep watching Matthews and waiting to be wow'ed and see a guy that gets compared to Eichel.
And I am left wanting every time.

Great player, sure. But I just haven't seen anything to warrant the hype.

If the Flames won the lottery, I would be all for taking a package to move down to 2nd or 3rd

Matthews is 7 months older than Puljujarvi and 8 months older than Laine.
I'm not sure how much of a difference that ends up making in the long run but he's basically a hockey season older than the 2 other guys.

It's significant, especially when we're talking about 17 year olds.

Will be interesting to see if the Finns catch up. Are they on the same level? Will they be with a little more seasoning post draft? Teams have to ask these questions.

Puljujarvi with the #1 fills an organizational need opposed to the BPA strategy the guys up north have employed with little success. It'd be a little-loved decision, but I'd have to think we'd all approve down the road!
Regardless of where we pick, I got this feeling watching Puljujarvi at the Jrs (small sample, I understand) that he is going to end up being the consensus #1 of that draft in hindsite.

Holy good god, THN is stupid. If we win 1st OA and decide that we want one of the Finnish wingers over Matthews (which I highly doubt), Treliving is front and center dangling it to the 2nd and 3rd OA's in return for a top-flight, blue chip RW prospect, he wouldn't pass on the opportunity to get some kind of return for ending up with 1st OA.
 Just asinine of them.

If you have the choice, you always take the center. So if the Flames somehow get lucky (and that's a colossal IF), then Matthews for sure. That being said, a big RW seems like the only thing missing from the Flames' top 6, so trading down to 2 or 3 and adding one of the Finns would be fantastic as well. But in any case, there's no way they'd take Puljujarvi over Matthews IMO.

I was fully impressed by Puljujarvi at the WJC. Hook, Line and Sinker.
I want to watch him and Johnny play together.
