Nope I would never contemplate separation.
However at some point the federals are going to have to step in, tell the provinces to stfu on these crucial pipelines and that they will be dealt with at a federal level, and if you keep yammering about it, no equalization payments for you this year young man.
Oh and Quebec, seriously get off of the couch, put down the controller and get a job.

Now after we're locked into 3-4 years of Trudeau/Notley rule, everyone is finally realizing that the left wing argument of 'tougher GHG regulations will give us the social license to build pipelines' was always and still is complete and utter BS. Obama never gave a crap whether we had a machine that literally ate all the carbon emissions from oilsands crude, KXL was never going to be approved. No amount of 'Sunny Ways' was or is going to matter. Trudeau's going to pretend that working on Energy East and trans mountain are actually fruitful endevours, but he's ultimately going to allow enough roadblocks from the usual sources to get put in front of them to drag along the timeline to effectively kill those projects too. Until the federal government is willing to effectively tell other provinces and first nations to get bent no new tidewater pipelines will ever get built.
Harper's methodology of stacking the regulatory boards and changing the laws to prevent interference and effectively ramming it down the First Nations/BC/Quebec government's throat was the only way these pipelines were ever going to get built. The window for that though given the times and the powers that be has effectively closed.

Harper failed to ram any major pipelines through. He was terribly ineffective at getting pipelines built. We can say that the new guys aren't doing any better but Harpers biggest failures as a so called pro-oil guy was restricting foreign investment and not getting pipelines built. Which after price are still the two biggest impediments to the oil industry right now.

The answer was to actually be even more heavy handed than he was. That's his failure, not failing to placate the unplacatable.

Its funny within a very short period of time after codierre's announcement, we've seen the major opposition parties already out opposing that announcement.
Brian Jean, McIver and Clark have all come out to say he's basically misguided. It looks like Jean is already doing television interviews on the safety of energy east.
you'd think that our premiere would say something. nothing from the party either.

But the argument you appear to be making though is that Harper was better at getting Pipelines built then the new guys. And this just isn't true.
They should build pipelines like they buiild powrlines, railroads and roads. Expropriate the land as required and get it done. No leader has done it.

Surprisingly Harper failed to show much determination to get these pipelines built. Probably because the response would have been "typical Conservative Nazi's destroy the environment and murdercize the natives one km at a time"
At some point they need to do the above. Sorry, we know it sucks, but we'll promise well be gentle when we ran this hard metal tube through your land.

Yeah, yeah, former military man, King & Country - I can respect that. However, you can't help but feel a little bit shackled by a federation whose concern for its most industrious member is a bit ... lacking given the generations of support we have poured their way.

I agree. I don't think that there would be much in the way of security repercussions either. They would never build straight through a reserve anyway. Well, they have, but the communities are compensated like kings. Literally, showered in bagels and cream cheese.

How does separating into a landlocked country with no access to ports better for building pipelines?

At one time maybe in my furious youth.
But not now, this country is better together then divided.
I'm interested in seeing what the current government does for Alberta during this crisis beyond a reshuffling to send what looks to be their original infrastructure dollars out here, which is equal to the expected bailout of Bombardier.
But when the finance minister was out here speaking it sounds like they weren't even thinking of additional ways to help out this province.

I was sorta joking so I could put in the line about ramming a large solid tube through their property.
I don't have the answers, besides the federal government needs to step up on the pipeline questions, and look at the good of the country over the individual provinces and communities that seem to have adopted a strategy of basically screw you.

Analysts think oilsands projects under construction will make the glut worse. I don't see how 225k bpd is really going to make a huge difference.

The ridiculous part of the pipeline opposition is this isn't asking the government to pay for a railroad or pay for the twinning of a highway so transportation companies can profit. We recognize the need and public good of providing transportation infrastructure. Our ports are subsidized and upgraded with government funds. All these direct subsidies of private business are okay.
But a company who wants to build the transportation infrastructure key to a country can't.
