I don't really agree with your Baertschi comments but laughed heartily at this one.

Would you think the same if Sam Bennett did this? Obviously it wouldn't be the exact same situation but just imagine if Bennet felt he was owed more minutes, he should play center or wanted to be on the 1st PP. Not in Bennett's character, but just imagine he did it anyway. Would you feel the same way?

Honestly, I preferred hockey when trade demands were made exclusively by proven players and you heard about one maybe once every 2-3 years. Now, it seems like you can't go 6 months without something like this. Even guys like Drouin, Baertschi and Rychel will do it now... wtf? Guys who have proven nothing but feel as though everything is owed to them. Typical millennial BS if you ask me. One day, this exact thing WILL happen to the Flames (again), and I don't think we'll see nearly as many people rushing to that kid's defense on this site as are currently defending Drouin.

The thing none of us know is what's been said to Drouin. Maybe Drouin was promised something and the team never followed through, maybe he was treated like crap from the coach and management. The timing of him being sent down is really douchy by the team too, they're not treating him the best and there were rumors of him asking for a trade last year. Maybe the team had a deal in place and was telling him all kinds of things to string him along and now he knows that he's had enough.

I'm not 100% taking his side or the teams side. I just think there is a lot more at play here then it seems and I don't think it's fair to just say "he's acting like a spoiled brat"

I can recognize times are changing but that doesn't mean I have to respect the Drouins and Beartschis of the world. Luckily there is still hope, all I have to do is look at a kid like Johnny Gaudreau for confirmation of that.

In like 2000 BC, you'd be dead.

Every generation thinks the next generation is entitled, arrogant and lazy.

Drouin seems like a ######

Off ice issue aren't important. If you can score, the NHL will always have a place for you.

MOD EDIT: we don't want rumours like that here.

This is a fact. Doesn't mean that once in a while it's not true though. The world is changing, not necessarily for the better.

Alexander the Great had already conquered half the known world and died by 32.

We should all step up our game.

We have little to no idea how he performed in practice, how he responded to the coaching staff's feedback or the effort in to fitness regime or diet. There is more than one later to this. Truth probably lies somewhere in between, but with all the previous rumours... No, no and no. A winner would have gone down, torn the Ahl up and get recalled - the talent is there.

Also a statement uttered by every single generation of humans.

In spite of the fact that our species has less poverty than ever before, less war than ever before, a higher standard of living than ever before, a longer life expectancy than ever before, better access to knowledge and information than ever before, more understanding of the human body and mind than ever before, and more efficient transportation than ever before.

But yeah that Drouin, what a typical millennial!

If the Flames drafted Austin Matthews, and he decided he didn't want to play in Calgary because the lack of marketing opportunities in a small-market Canadian city would cost him millions, would you applaud his character for standing up for himself?

Depends where you live, I guess. It's not getting better everywhere and a lot of what you're saying is not quantifiable or is overly generalized. Life expectancy for instance is an interesting one. This generation looks to be the first to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents. How about global warming? In 100 years, much of the world may be uninhabitable. We could debate this for hours but I'm not really sure what this has to do with Sven Drouin.

Drouin is 1.5 years into working with TB. While I can fully appreciate arguments that not performing in the early years could cost him millions later in his career -- where has there been any indication he is deserving of the same opportunities as certain others in his draft class?

As far as I'm concerned, he's been given opportunities. In 70 GP last year he found the net 4 times. He played a good deal with Stamkos last year and to begin this year as well. You'd hope a skilled player can do a lot better than 4G last year and 2G this year than that.

So what else do you do with that player? You send him down. He certainly hasn't made a clear-cut case that he is an NHL player at this point.

In the AHL he's given another opportunity: prove them wrong. After 7 games in the AHL, he puts up 3 points.

No where in this am I reading a story of a hard-working, well-performing prospect not being given a shot. If Monahan had a similar stat-line, I'd hope we would be working on his development in the AHL. At this point, this is not an NHL player that should be worried about how many millions he'll make in his 30s. He should be worried about earning a contributing spot on an NHL roster. For starters, the NHL team that saw a future in him and drafted him to help realize this.
