The novelty of Scott being at the Allstar game will most likely 5 minutes. I imagine the NHL tweaks it's All Star voting after this year. Ill probably still watch but I was hoping he wasn't going, with change to the new format make's it more exciting for the younger fans.

No Yotes seems like it should be fixable... You'd think they could ask around the locker room who wants to go to the weekend, and at least let them represent the team in the skills competition.

So, now all the "I wanted to watch the game to see Scott play, but now I'm not going to" people better watch the game... the whole damn game, and the skills competition.

I know I'll watch it. Or at least have it on while I work. 3 on 3 is inherently fun.

Someone will get "injured" and a spot will open up. Happens every year. A Coyote will get to go.

Would have to be from the Pacific. And someone from a team with more than one representative, otherwise the replacement will come from that team.
So, one of Johnny (no way), Gio, Pavelski, Burns, Doughty or Perry.
So, hopefully, Perry.

Absolutely right. But the entire All-Star game is confined to people already interested in the NHL. And in this case, the bad press may very well have forced the NHL's hand.

Reason: meant interested in NHL, not the ASG

I think the NHL forced their own hand here. They didn't fix the selection process even though this 'troll job' if you want to call it that has occurred numerous times, though this is the first that it succeeded (unless you want to count Girgensons - but that is a different kind of case).
I never voted, and I never really appreciated fan voting anyways, especially for teams like the Flames who are in the West and are not a big market team.
There were so many ways to fix the selection process while still including the fans, but the NHL chose not to do so. I think it would have looked terrible if they decided to exclude Scott. He got voted in - legally as per the NHL rules - and thus the NHL should follow their own process. And they are, so they are looking a lot less bush-league and the conspiracy theorists can stop fixating.
Yeah, having Scott in this All-Star game is not ideal. Fan voting without restrictions isn't ideal either, and this is what can happen.
If the NHL wanted fans to be involved in the voting process, there are so many ways to do it. Maybe the selection process would run better if the NHL asked teams to submit a list of their top 5 or 10 players who they feel should be there. Throw them all online and have fans select from these?
Heck, I would be much more interested if the players themselves selected who shows up. Make them select 'x' number of players from every team. That would be an interesting result to take note of. Perhaps have coaches select players from different teams. So many ways the voting itself can be interesting. Fan voting? I never thought fan voting was all that interesting, but maybe that's just me. NHL should have at least made a fix a few seasons ago to put an end to the 'troll vote' at least, but they chose not to, and now we have Captain John Scott.

^And that is very much right. The vote has been trolled pretty much every year since 2007 and Rory Fitzpatrick. Fans trying to get Dany Heatley voted into the ASG when Ottawa hosted also comes to mind. Last year's vote and Latvia. The league knew about it, did nothing, and now has to eat it's crapburger. But they will fix the process for next year to make it both more manageable on their side, and less interesting on ours.

I wonder if they would have chose OEL instead of Gio if there would have been as much outcry?

I doubt they'd tell Giordano (or anyone else) "oh yea, you can't go anymore because John Scott isn't and we need a Coyotes player".
If this had happened, they would have either invited a Coyotes forward, or they'd ask Burns to play forward and invite OEL.
