Talbot is looking good so far, and I think it is a decent deal all things considered.
I can't help but think that the term is a little long for the sample size thus far - and really hope that blows up in their faces - but that really is a decent contract for what Talbot has been giving Edmonton.

He was terrible early, he looks fantastic now, if we're honest the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Sure, you could argue we would rather have someone other than all 3 of those goalies, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Off topic... Treliving's issue was that he had 3 birds in his hand and they all crapped at the same time. It's not a good situation having a hand full of crap.

Term is the most important thing...especially for rebuilding teams
Hiller makes zero from the Flames next season
Ramo will make zero unless he has a good finish
not saying its a bad deal but 3 years @4.1 no matter what happens

its way easier playing on a last place team with no real pressure as opposed to playing meaningful games
pressure was on at the start...now if they lose its no big deal cause "injuries" and what the heck why not another first overall

This is kinda silly. He played amazing when Lundquist went down last year

Maybe. He looked good in NYR too. Perhaps playing behind the horribad Oiler defense shellshocked him as it has done to many decent goalies. Unfortunately I tend to think Talbot is better than our goalies and that EDM finally has shored up one of their weaknesses.
Luckily they don't seem close to acquiring more top pairing defenders so they still have a few glaring weaknesses.

My first thought was that it is a big contract for a guy with about 80 games under his belt.
However, those games are over 3 seasons, and his numbers are fairly consistent, with more than one team, so you have to consider that.
I still think it's a tad premature (I would have waited the season out if it were up to me), but it isn't too bad.

But then he is a UFA and now you have to bid against others. I think its risky but I think the value is ok and term is fairly short.

I didn't say July. Just saying - let's see the 2nd 40 games as well.

For sure. But I think if you don't offer a contract prior to the end of the season he waits and tests the market.

He may well be, I dont know, but when he plays 60+ games as a starter for the same team we'll at least have a consistent body of work, at the moment its all just randomly pieced together.

Rangers Vs. Oilers
its not silly at all...when all the pressure was on HIM at the start of the season he #### the bed...now the Oilers are better off losing and he plays great
