If any player pulls a Lindros and refuses to go to the Oilers, I could see it being Arizona born Auston Matthews. He is very outspoken and isn't afraid to make bold career moves (Switzerland). He could use C depth as an excuse.

I did the simulator 17 times and got...Oh wait nobody cares
I want to know, since I'm too lazy to do the simulation myself.
I think it would make sense for Edmonton to trade the pick away, especially if Matthews requested it. They could fetch a piece that they actually need.
But we all know this won't happen (Edmonton being smart enough to trade a surplus away for a need).
I see. It's an uncommon situation as far as NA players are concerned so I was a bit confused.
I think you'll see more of this for Sept 16-30th birthdays. Why not play overseas and make six figures? Much better than the CHL. NCAA would be sweet too. But nothing like playing in Switzerland making six figures. Nash and Thornton both enjoyed their time playing over there during the lock out. Joe even met his wife there.

Could a player from Major Junior go overseas or I thought they were locked into a contract? If this is the case only Junior A players could pull this off.

I think they can no issue. The problem is most Major Junior players aren't exceptional enough to be playing pro hockey at age 17 or 18.
Matthews is touted along the lines of McDavid/Eichel.

Yeah, I know who Matthews is and now I remember that Ramholt left the CHL to return to Switzerland. Ramholt, also a late birthday, had already played 2 seasons of Swiss A before being drafted.
Here are some videos for people to check out of some of the top guys.
Matthews 2015 World Jrs
Think you meant you link to this one instead?
Same guy who does there awesome compilations released his Laine 2016 video a couple hours ago too apparently. Though it'll obviously be very similar to the 2016 one you found above https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwf64yOB1wo

Thanks for that. Didn't even notice the mistake on Matthews.
I find that it helps to see a player, even if it is short video clips like that, to get an impression of what type of player they are. A guy might be 6-4, but do they play like it, or are they a variation of Colborne. You won't know until you see him in action.
I would have added something of Sergachyov as well but there wasn't any higher quality vids out there other than a random goal here and there.

Flames need Laine all day long out of this draft. even at #1. Yeah call me crazy. I don't really care. A RH pure shooter like that with size? But then I look at Puljujarvi, and he scores those dirty goals. And that speed is something else. Ah man. What a top 3.
This is no slight to Matthews, he is the #1 guy. The Finns certainly make it a debate. Those 3 should be no brainers for 1,2,3. But then as I look down the list. Alex Nylander is everything his brother isn't and a whole bunch of what he is. Alex pays a tougher game, and makes everything look so effortless out there. I see Sam Bennett without the rabid junkyard dog mentality. More like trained doberman who knows exactly when and where to be to make that critical strike.
I didn't think there was much in this years draft, outside the top 10 there may be a couple of gems. But dude, this is the year the Flames just need to ease off the playoff pedal and get that RW. There's so many!

I wonder if the Flames or any other team that's picking #1 or #2 will try to pull a Burke and grab both Puljujarvi and Laine like he did with the Sedins.

No matter how much I look at Matthews, I don't see the Crosby or McDavid comparisons. I don't see the kind of crazy skill those two have.
Real good player sure, 1st overall why not, but his biggest advantage over guys like Puljujarvi and Laine is that he's a center.
...I just realized that it's almost inevitable that Oilers will pick either Laine or Puljujarvi, because they need wingers. Gah. As a Finnish hockey fan, that just sucks

I'm hoping that when McDavid gets back that they magically take off and push for a playoff spot. Them getting one of the top 3 picks would tick me off. They might actually suck their way to a decent team.
As for the Flames, I'd be happy with any of the top 9 guys.
