I watched Hayes a lot in his last season with Gaudreau. Regardless of whether he plays with Johnny or not, I'd love him on my team.
So he's made some stupid mistakes, who cares, he's young and learning. If the Rangers give up on him, I'd hope Calgary is right in there trying to provide a suitable destination.

Or we just eat some of the cap hit. We pay $2M of it. Personally, I'd prefer a 1st round pick for Hudler if there's a team willing to offer it. Not sure I'm sold on Hayes.

Based on Hartley's comments about seeing if Hiller can play the next 10 I'd say the 1A/1B duo is still there. I think he just didn't want to mess with Ramo's confidence while it was high so he kept playing him until he started to gas.

Hayes may be regretting not signing with Calgary to begin with.. You have to wonder if Calgary management would not be interested after being snubbed before...

Thanks god Frolik is back. We need him more than Hudler right now.
Gotta feel for Huds though. Everyone figured a weeks rest would get that groin back to full health. Now I guess they try for two weeks.

Any of those big Hayes boys would be sweet next to Gaudreau.

Colborne has played nearly a full season more of hockey, is 2 years older and has less points and the same amount of goals total as Hayes.
When it comes to offense, one is clearly better than the other.

But when you consider he could have been in against Florida without equipment and got the win and that Ramo is the number one now the only reason I go back to Hiller is if Ramo needs more rest.
5 game trip and the Flames in a dog fight you can't afford a spotty goaltending performance to cost you a game against the league's 28th best team. Lose that one and suddenly you need to win 3 of 4 with the last stop in Dallas and the Hurricanes playing well.
|
Hiller needs to get on some sort of hot streak for the Flames to make the playoffs. Having him play after a shutout gives him the ability to have a good stretch. Ramo has never proven he can carry a team to the playoffs by himself and I don't expect this year to be any different.

Sure, Hayes is having a rough year in NY, lots of young players do. Maybe a fresh start is just what he needs.
As Flash Walken pointed out above, comparing Hayes to Colborne is selling him short.
Most importantly, the RW position is a barren wasteland of garbage in the Flames organization. Taking a shot at a guy like Hayes is a no-brainer (assuming a fair price)

I'd put a whole bunch...
Stats & Facts:
Colborne: 5G/10A/0.42PPG/Avg TOI: 15.57/Age: 25 (26 in two weeks)
Hayes: 7G/13A/0.49PPG/Avg TOI: 13:34/ Age: 23 (24 in four months)
Clearly Hayes has the slight edge just on raw numbers. Factoring in that he does it in two less minutes on average and is a little over two years younger I'd call it a clear edge. Another factor is that Hayes has proven chemistry (albeit at the NCAA level) with our star LW, while Colborne... doesn't.

Hey, I never said Colborne was better. Just not worse than Street was making it out to be with all those little pointy arrow heads exaggerating the divide.

I think it's important that you give Hiller some starts to get his game going. He shuts out Florida and now has the confidence he may have lost. I'm a huge Ramo fan but it only makes sense to play Hiller against the Oil and see if we can run with him for a few games while giving Ramo some much needed rest.
We're going to need Hiller if we have any chances of making a playoff spot.

I have a feeling he has been injured for sometime. If true I am not sure what the Flames are thinking there.

I can't do it since I'm on tropical vacation in Edmonton without a computer, but if someone cared to post a HERO chart comparison you'd see there's a really wide gap between the two when you include Colborne's "strength" of possession metrics and change the points from overall points to pts/60

Why do people who want Hayes pencil him in to play with Gaudreau when Ferland was so good in that role?

Because they think the chemistry they Gaudreau and Hayes had at BC will translate into the NHL.
