That is a great return for TB, in my opinion. I understand why Minny would do it, but from a Flames perspective, we couldn't match that. (Unless you think Backlund/Colborne are comparable)

Flames don't have the pieces - they either hold more value or would be bit parts not as appealing to Tampa.
Anaheim is interesting in this mix - do they include one of their young D? They also have cap room to absorb a bad contract coming back, if Tampa want to create cap room as well

From everything I am reading it is the Blues leading the way followed by the Ducks, Preds, Wild. I don't think the Flames are in the mix at all

The problem is that all the Flames Andironack prospects are playing like garbage outside of a few longshots

We weren't a team in on Hamilton as well, and Treliving fooled everyone lol

The powerplay looks like it's starting to roll, and with the possible emergence of a legit second line I think that's the least of their concerns.
Their biggest problem has been keeping the puck out of their net.

If you drop October, they are 5th.
Tied for 6th last year, and 5th this season, ignoring the aberration (and abomination) of October.
To those saying the offense comes from the D, sure. But the fact remains that scoring goals is not the biggest problem this team faces - not even close.
Spending a ton of assets to acquire Drouin solves a minor problem.
If we can get him dirt cheap - great. But going full bore to get him makes no sense at all.

I don't know, if I were to guess I'd say Treliving interest has been tempered by the indications Druin doesn't have the best attitude. With team psychology so important in this extremely competitive league, especially considering the roller coaster ride we are on this year, I bet he is not willing to part with as much as he may have been otherwise. Which is ok with me.
People continually undervalue the intangibles players can bring in the room and off ice.

I don't think anyone is suggesting the Flames go full bore to get him. He addresses one of the Flames needs but not even the most important need. He'd be great to have but I don't think anyone here is saying that Drouin is the missing piece and we should give up anything to get him.
If we can get him for a reasonable cost it'd be great. If another team from the west trades for him, I hope they over pay to the point of the deal being one sided for Tampa.

Well Wideman and Russell aren't long for this franchise and Gio is closing on his mid-30's so I wouldn't expect the blueline production to last forever. Also I believe at times that blueline scoring has come at the expense of goals against so it evens out. I still believe this team needs elite scoring wingers badly as this team depends too much on their defense for offense and as we saw at the beginning of the season that isn't something you want to lean on overly for success.

I think Russell and Wideman are replaceable points wise. Hamilton by himself could shoulder a good portion.
Even if Gio loses a step and drops to the second pairing I think he will be good for 45-50 points for a long time.

You make a good point.
But I think going forward, Brodie and Giordano switch (Brodie's points up, Gio's down - call it even).
I think Hamilton replaces Wideman.
And many of our prospects are pretty offensive: Kyllington, Andersson, Hickey and Nakladal.
I would expect that our D is strong offensively for some time to come.

Russell's point are replaceable. Highly unlikely you find someone to pick up Wideman's points. 40-50 point d-men don't grow on trees.

Neither does Wideman's 40-50 point seasons lol he has 2 goals this year at the half way marker.

He's still on pace for 37-38 points with a ridiculously low shooting percentage.

And how many of his points came on the second assist? I like Wideman's but I think his play this year can be found on the farm next year.
PS I would love drouin lol

The talk on the FAN between Lavoile(sp?) and Steinberg was the Blues as the likely trade partner but a much larger deal with more pieces
