I quit reading after I saw the cult thing.

You and me are basically on the same page.

I just think some people should, you know, read the whole thread before going off half-cocked, as it were. Had he done so, he might have noticed a number of people cautioning everyone against overgeneralizations. Just my two cents. I know that you're probably right, and far be it from me to judge a guy based on one post. (if that was the standard, I'd have made your ignore list a long time ago, right? )

Nah, as your one post would have probably STILL impressed me, no matter HOW extreme it would have been.

BTW....he has 2 posts....now I'm off to the search filter to find where he posted the other one.

But for what it's worth, I agree--although in a way he didn't say what he's being accused of saying, his comments were definitely ill advised.
To my way of thinking, he is confused and so are his followers, he shouldn't have a role in world politics. As the supposed representitive of Jesus and god, he should take his advice and let those who 'render unto Caeser what is Caeser's' and he should 'render unto god what is god's'. Being practical though, it was probably Jesus' apolitical stance that got him crucified, a tough line to walk.

Now a few more voices like this, and maybe the world could get past this issue.

Nadhlatul Ulama chairman Hasyim Muzadi called on Indonesian Muslims on Monday to accept Pope Benedict XVI's apology for offending Muslims, saying it was "an obligation" according to Islamic teachings.
Quote:
Hasyim said the regret was "enough" and further resentment from the Muslims would only justify the pope's statement. "If the rage continues, perhaps what the pope said is true," he said.

What about the basic fact that if someone in their minds defies (sp) their god it is wrong, but their leaders can say anything they want and expect to get away with it.

Remember they don't even accept Israel as a country.

The religious leaders are using this as a means to get more control over their "sheep". NExt week it will be something else.

I don't disagree, but isn't that common in western politics, too? Certain western leaders manipulate and sensationalize the facts, and create conflict and enemies where there needn't be, and expand their own power and control through these supposed demons. There will always be some people who buy it hook, line and sinker, and a lot of people who don't. Fortunately, thus far it seems that the majority of muslims are seeing past the rhetoric of a few extremist leaders and not getting too riled up about it.
