I wouldn't mind doing something like a Russell + Wotherspoon deal where we give a long term prospect away to get a higher end prospect back. Maybe they want to unite the Wotherspoon brothers.
I was joking earlier in the year, we should ship them Wotherspoon and Hickey just to see commentators squirm. In reality, I agree Russell seems like the right style, but doubts seem to be that Russell is the wrong size, contract and age for NYI.

Wonder if Higgins will remain with the Nucks or if they will assign him to the AHL. Higgins is a shadow of what he used to be. That said, all the vets on the Nucks barring the Sedins are not very good hockey players anymore.
What guys? Their farm team is horrible. They can't call up Brossoit to play Forward. Brossoit is basically Carey Price'ing them out of last place..
It's 3 games. For a 4th liner. Doesn't matter who they call up with respect to impact on the team.
Sometimes it's more about the message you send to your organization. And in this case, Chiarelli has just said: thanks for your effort, but we don't think any of you are worthy. We'll just go with the new guy (even though he has only played 4 games in the last few months).
If unclaimed by Wednesday morning, Higgins will be assigned to the Canucks' American Hockey League affiliate in Utica, N.Y.

He has another year on his contract with the Canucks that pays him $2.5 million per season. That salary will likely dissuade any other NHL team taking a gamble on him.
The Canucks have said the move was necessary to make roster room for young players like Jake Virtanen, Jared McCann and the newly acquired Emerson Etem, who made his Vancouver debut in the Canucks' 3-2 overtime win Monday night over the Florida Panthers.
Sucks for Higgins, but that's the new reality for vets who are over the hill and out of options.

Edler is having a really good season. And I'm not 100% sure about Hamhuis, but he's probably still good too.

Dreger: I don't get the feel like Murray, #Sens are closing in on something. Not to say they're not trying hard & looking at all options.
