USA Hockey basically said they could go, but they could lose their shot at playing for the national team at the world championships in March

Or maybe it was brought up, but the response is we have too much $$ in this too pull the pin.
We don't know, hell Ms. Laing doesn't know, but a lawsuit will help Ms. Laing learn that if that happened.
Again, I struggle to pass judgement on her of trying to do what she thinks is best for her.

Yeah, that's why I said "and would have suffered", I have had the same discussions in a different sport at the representative level, it is common, but short sighted.

And that I would like accountability for. This lawsuit erodes any sympathy we have for the victim.
If the victim reached out to wealthy organizations and they told her to take a hike THAT is the topic we should be discussing. Tip: do it publicly.
Of note: Her family had started a GoFundMe requesting $50,000 in assistance. It reached $43,057 and the family shut it down. They weren't shy about publicly asking for assistance.

I'm sure if the NHL and Patriots had been contacted for assistance it as well would have been public. They seem savvy enough to know that public attention is the best way to incite action.
Again, this isn't a commentary on the morals of her. Just commentary on the world we live in.

I understand, I was just putting this out there for others that may not have known.
As for the quality of the ice, if the players noticed it was really bad, then they should have said something. Maybe not so far as to refuse to play, but enough that someone could have come out and made repairs to the ice. There were numerous comments from the Habs and Bruins about how bad the ice was for practice earlier in the day I believe.

Would you mind sticking to speaking for yourself. It's irritating when people talk as if their opinion represents everyone.
Besides, sympathy does not pay your bills.

I havent seen the claim or anything, but before anyone dumps on her, it could be her insurer filing a claim on her behalf, which they are entitled to do and she is required to participate.

You seem to be pretty active in eroding sympathy for her.
Perhaps there is a reason that somethings aren't made public in the lawsuit, perhaps.
You keep saying this isn't a commentary on her morals, yet you feel the need to link the GoFundMe account.

That says pretty much all you need to know about how real that possibility is in ice hockey.
(Plus it's not the players responsibility to check the ice quality.)

That the players would choose to play in such conditions does not change the fact that they have the right to choose not to.
But hey, if you want to speak for the players, while at the same time calling someone else for speaking for you, that's your choice.

This type of injury could cost millions in short & long-term care in the American medical system. Was she a student? She may not have had adequate insurance coverage through herself or her family.
This is a side effect of the broken American medical system.

Meh. IMO you're now just deliberately being obtuse on both points, for what ever reason. I'm taking it as a sign that this is not a conversation that would go anywhere, so that's that for me.

You're the one trying to argue that they can't refuse dangerous work because of their contracts, and arguing so in the face of laws that say they can. So when I call you out for moving the goalposts into arguing they would not *choose* to do so, you're going to accuse me of being "deliberately obtuse"?
Your argument is now boiling down to "I know you are but what am I?"

When did I say that the GoFundMe account was anything that would be detrimental to her morals. The GoFundMe account was proof that her and her family aren't oblivious to public requests for help. It also showed what help they were requesting ($50,000).
Is everyone that is against my line of thinking pro-lawsuit? That really is the only commentary I'm trying to incite. That I wish there was a better way we did things. Really taken aback at the negativity towards my thoughts on this page.

The exact same thing that happens in any other NHL game where an injury occurs...

I am not pro-lawsuit, I am not anti-lawsuit.
But turns like "erodes any sympathy" is, to me, callous.
Sometimes "mom" has the best advice.
Not to be rude, but IMO this hardly falls under the frivolous lawsuit heading.

I would actually be curious to know why the lawsuit *should* erode sympathy.
If anything, this is the kind of thing that the system is intended to be used for.

So the waiver she signed isn't worth anything? I always wondered about those waivers.
