And I think Yzerman was paying him to say that...

I'm sure they are. The question is are they interested at the asking price. Probably not

I hope Brad called up Steve after the game and dangled Bennett just for kicks, only to drop the phone and walk away, laughing hysterically.

Fletcher clearly is looking to give the Wild a shot in the arm. He offered Columbus defenseman Jonas Brodin (the salary cap-strapped Wild needed to trade a big contract) and a forward, sources say, before Johansen was dealt to Nashville for defenseman Seth Jones.

Although Yzerman's ask is Dumba, Brodin is not a bad consolation prize and plays on the right, where he wants a new presence. He is locked up for... 5 years, I believe. Going the other way would have to be salary balance, more of my speculation being Filpulla, as he has underperformed, and Namestrikov is pushing for ice time. A 'fills needs on both sides' trade.

It's the easiest comment to make in the NHL, because Treliving is interested in every deal - he said so himself. He doesn't consider it doing his job unless he sees if they can be in the mix.

Wenneberg on Columbus is looking pretty good now as well.

Throwing out salaries wouldn't Brodin have more value than Dumba?

I don't see any way the Wild part with Brodin for Drouin unless Tampa adds a +

I disagree. Brodin, when not playing with Suter, isn't the same player and hasn't taken that next step. Brodin for Drouin makes a ton of sense to me.

I don't see anything that we would give up that Tampa would want for Drouin. It would take some magic for us to get him.

Joe Colborne
Controllable asset - Check
Not Expensive - Check
former 1st round draft pick - Check
add a mid round pick and a pinch of Treliving wizardry and you have a done deal

Well, he would make a good replacement for Boyle. 4L centre redundancy. Its good disaster planning.

Could the same not also apply to Drouin?
He benefitted last year from a lot of minutes playing with Stamkos and St. Louis, but has not been as good offensively this season. At present, he has two goals in 4 AHL games since his dispatch from TB, and both of those came in his first game with Syracuse.
I think one could argue that Drouin is not the same player apart from elite level NHL scorers. Having said that, I do agree that Brodin for Drouin makes good sense, and I think would be a good trade for both teams. I think that Yzerman is going to meet a lot of stiff resistance to his offers, and this could very well mean that TB would have to add to get Brodin.

Yeah Drouin is a tough deal.
Yzerman is going to want the value of the potential that you usually get from a 3rd overall pick.
But the guy hasn't been able to stay in the lineup, has had injury issues, and in his 3rd year post draft should really be taking a bigger step.
Barkov, Mackinnon, Monahan, Domi, Lindholm, etc are all taking that step this year.
You see guys like Bennett, Draisaitl, Reinhart, Larkin, etc taking that step in their 2nd season post draft.
Drouin really is being left behind here, and the longer Yzerman waits the lower his value probably goes.

I'm willing to bet that Steve Y is going to end up taking a deal that's fair or leans more in favor of the other team.
