So, what would be some possible packages for Drouin...
Backlund + Poirier + Kylington
1st + Klimchuk + Andersson

McKenzie this morning: (Yes he still thinks Yzerman will ask for Bennett)
http://www.todaysslapshot.com/from-t...ks-for-drouin/
Quote:
On a possible price tag for a team wanting to acquire Jonathan Drouin:
“Well, I think it’s pretty easy to figure what Steve Yzerman is looking for, depending on the team that he’s talking to. If he’s going to talk to the Vancouver Canucks, he wants Bo Horvat. If he’s going to talk to the Calgary Flames, he’s going to want Sam Bennett. If he talks to the St. Louis Blues, he’s going to want Robby Fabbri. If he’s going to talk to the Montreal Canadiens, I’m not sure what he’d want there. I’m not saying the Canadiens would do this, but I’m sure he would say, ‘I want Alex Galchenyuk.’ And maybe there are other elements within the Canadiens, whether it’s Scherbak or McCarron or whatever.
“But it’s obviously a really good young player, who’s either on his entry level or just coming out of entry level, so that he knows it’s a fixed-cost asset. They’ve got a cap situation in Tampa. They can’t take on a lot of salary right now, so whatever player comes back for Jonathan Drouin – if they intend to insert him in the lineup – it’s got to fit dollar-wise, and that’s probably less than a $2 million salary. So I don’t see him going for any experienced or higher-priced guys.
“But if you talk to the Anaheim Ducks, whether it’s Hampus Lindholm or Sami Vatanen – the list goes on and on for young players on entry level, or just coming out of entry level, that would be real good players for a long time. So if Jonathan Drouin goes elsewhere and becomes a star, the Tampa Bay Lightning has someone in their lineup who is going to be an above average player.“

Both of those are too much IMO.
I could see a deal like Poirier + a conditional 2nd. Maybe add another filler piece such as Raymond or Wideman.
Or Backlund for Drouin straight up. Possibly Backlund and a conditional 2nd. Condition being how many games in the NHL Drouin plays over the next year or for the rest of this year.
I could see teams like Boston offering someone like Pastrnak + a 2nd or 3rd or Chicago offering Teravainen + a conditional pick.
But I don't think Yzerman is going to get that coveted top 10 pick back or even a premier bluechipper let alone both.

I think if Backlund were to be included salary would need to be retained and then add a 2nd

I guess negotiations do start with what each side wants to get/give up, and then goes from there. I sure don't fault Yzerman for asking that, but Treliving probably tells him "no, but how about..." and then off we go.
Its too bad Flames don't have the pieces to get Drouin, I think he'd look awesome with Bennett.

Oddly enough they all have 15 or 16 points in a similar amount of games.

There's more to hockey than points, especially when talking about players that are less than 20 years old.
I'd rather have Bennett than Horvat, Fabbri or Drouin.

Agreed. I truly feel we have the prize when it comes to that group. Much like in Monahan when comparables such as McKinnon, Nichuskin, etc.. are considered.

What Yzerman wants, and what he'll get, aren't necessarily the same thing.
But his comments about salary cap, and needing a good young player on a good cap hit, show that he is in a difficult situation.
No GM is going to give away their young potential star in a trade for another young potential star who is having some issues with coaches and playing style, unless the young star they give up is worth less than Drouin.
Period.
Let's say, for the sake of argument, that Bennett and Drouin had equal value (lol). There is NO reason at all for Treliving to make an equal trade. It makes more sense for him (any GM) to hold on to their own guy.
If Yzerman wants another potential young star in a swap for Drouin, he HAS to take someone who is worth less than Drouin.
Or hope to find an idiot to trade with.

Closet Oiler fan, be nice, they don't know any better. Taylor Elite Hall, Ryan Nugent Toews etc, be gentle to them.

Can you imagine if we traded Bennett for Drouin? Poor Drouin would never have a chance, expectations would be skyrocketed for him to replace Bennett. Would be a disaster of epic proportions.

The Flames can't offer a young current Top 4 but could offer a Russell for now and a good D prospect for future. I think other teams can do better though

It's safe to say Yzerman thinks there are teams out there who believe Drouin will likely reach the potential that made him a 3rd overall pick in a strong draft. It's not as though Drouin is 24, or has suffered a serious injury. If the draft were held again today he would still go top 6. So why wouldn't Yzerman expect a prospect of the same calibre coming back?
