I really wish Hiller wasn't our other goalie. I just haven't seen the team play with confidence when he's in net. He's like the new McBackup 2.0 and when he's in, the team just stinks.

If you are talking this year, fine, though I didn't see the Flames play with much confidence in front of Ramo or Ortio during the same time frame.

Last year he played more, won more and had better save% and GAA than Ramo, so I don't really see the team not playing with confidence in front of him as opposed to Ramo.

This doesn't make a good case for Ramo to ever be a legit #1 goalie if he's having "fatigue" issues. Ramo has been better than Hiller this season, but Hiller could easily get on a hot streak at any time. Ramo and Hiller are still interchangeable in my view. Hopefully we see the last of both of them next season.

Forget goals, i'd be surprised if he went a period without giving up a 3 ridiculous rebounds.

Agree on the fatigue issues, but you can't have watched the Flames much over the past year and a half if you actually believe they are interchangeable. Hiller is terrible. We'd be dead last if Ramo wasn't here to provide at least average goaltending.

Again, this year maybe. Last year they were exactly interchangeable. In fact Hiller was a bit better.

Ramo cured his main flaw by playing a bit deeper in the net so as to not lose it so much. He got a bit more like Hiller in that way.

I'm pretty sure last year doesn't matter or help us moving forward. This is this year and I think we're all talking about this year. What anyone did last year is irrelevant.

We saw what happened with Kipper. The magical run was a year where he played comparatively fewer games than in the seasons afterward where we rode him to death.

It was bound to happen. Hopefully he has a good game and goes on a streak of his own. The guy might be having a bad season but he's still capable of being good.

Hiller was the better goalie last year, not sure how you could argue that. Saying that, both are below average goalies.

I honestly don't care what the stats say sometimes with goaltenders, Hiller was no where near good as Ramo last year. Routine suspect goals, poor positioning, and a complete inability to stop any shot in the top half of the net. He went from bad to terrible this year because with age he's getting slower and less athletic which further exposes the flaws I mentioned above.

Hiller has benefited from playing in front of good teams the majority of his career in Anaheim. The Ducks flat out said they moved on from him because they don't feel they could win with him. I fully agree. I actually believe Anaheim may have won another Cup by now if they had received decent goaltending.

We saw last year who the Flames went with in the playoffs, it wasn't Hiller.

Um, he's played 12 straight games, and the last time he was off was due to illness. He played all but 1 game in November and all but 2 games in December. I think he's earned a night off here and there. Not even the top goalies in the league play that much. I think only Schneider plays more often.

If he's fatigued, I completely understand why. It's not a knock on him as a starter.

Who was the Flames goalie with dehydration problems in the 80s, which were many years later suggested to be more related to his partying on the road than a condition on the ice?

Hyperbole much? I'm pretty sure Hiller stopped a couple up top.

Anyway, I reject the premise that, behind the same team, Hiller won more games, had a better save % and GAA and was chosen to start more just because he was lucky or something.

It was Hiller actually. In the series we actually won.

I suppose that's fair although Kipper played well over 70 games for the Flames in seven straight years and I don't recall him ever complaining about fatigue. I fully realize that not everyone is the same but I imagine this is making Treliving's offseason decisions less difficult as it's clear this team badly needs a starting goaltender. Another season of Ramo and 1B or whatever is likely not going to get the Flames where they want to be.

Wideman was one of the most offensive defencemen last year and had 56 points. Should he be our go to guy on the PP this year?

What a player did last year is good proof, what a player has done so far this year is much better proof.

I must have been some hammered at those games, because I legitimately thought it was Ramo.

Regardless, I actually think Ramo has been dealt a pretty raw deal here over the years. In my opinion he's the superior goaltender (on our team) and has been, but Hiller has always been favoured by Hartley for some odd reason that I don't see. Until recently Ramo hasn't ever been really handed a legitimate chance to take the spot. I was blown away when they sent Ramo down to the AHL instead of Hiller earlier in the year.

I really dislike Hiller though, so I could be blinded by that.
