I keep hearing that were deep on defence prospects. Outside of Kylington, Hickey and Andersson, who do we have? Seems that if we trade two of those three were suddenly in "cupboards bare" territory with regards to the D prospect pool.

I kind of see Drouin's roof as being Alex Tanguay, reminds me of the way he plays. If he was a center and had the height I could picture Thornton. But he's a small winger. Could be wrong, just my opinion.

Conroy on the Fan yesterday spoke very highly of Wortherspoon. In addition Kulak and Culkin have promise. We also have 2 top Dmen that are 25 and 22 signed long term. Outside of Gaudreau who is a top winger that is young? Ferland is hopeful. Porier? Klimchuck? Agostino?
The Flames currently lack top 6 forwards and prospects with top 6 upside

That's a very good point, forgot about Culkin and Kulak. I trust Connie when he speaks about Wotherspoon but it seems Hartley has a different opinion. Out of the D prospects who would you package up in exchange for Drouin?

Exactly. How about we let these seeds grow a bit before we rush in to harvest them.

Morrison may not be having a great year, but I would imagine he's still highly regarded. Kulak, Culkin and probably still Wotherspoon are guys who could make the team as lower D-men, and who might be able to step in right now if needed. Considering there are but 6 spots, and that only 4 would be available long term (because of Brodie and Hamilton), 7 prospects isn't bad. That's not counting Nakladl (age) or Rafikov (too disjointed of a path) or Kanzig (a huge prject but could be a surprise).
ETA: But I wouldn't trade for Drouin - he's not a good option for this team).

Ceci is a 22 year old defenseman with good size. He's having a tough year, but he's a pretty good asset. We don't really have anything in that range since Hamilton is better.

The Flames have a couple young defencemen of higher calibre than Ceci (Brodie, Hamilton), and a bunch that are lower. Any of our prospects on D (Hickey, Kylington, Andersson) would the add to a trade for Drouin, not the centrepiece.

I think a lot of people are overlooking is that Yzerman seems to want an NHLer that can play right now.
Ceci, Dumba, and Fabbri are all contributing to NHL teams right now.
He doesn't seem to be interested in prospects that are 1,2, or more years away from establishing themselves. Will he drop his ask, I guess time will tell but it doesn't look like prospects such as Kylington, Andersson, Hickey, Poirier etc, will do it for now.

Yeah. Treliving wouldn't be doing his job if he wasn't trying, but I doubt Calgary is in the mix for this.

Size is the only thing Ceci has going for him. I think the rest of his skill set is below average. I think he's in a good situation in Ottawa where they are letting him play. If he were a Calgary prospect he would probably be in the minors behind our dearth of veterans. I don't think he has much upside, at least not enough to get a supposed top line talent. I think this is more of a statement about Drouin's apparent value than anything else. Ceci is not the top end talent that has been suggested would take to get Drouin. Far from it.

Yep, lightning are in their window of contention right now.
They are looking for Top 4 D that are young.
Ceci actually fits the bill more than Dumba in my mind because Ceci doesn't have the point production to warrant the massive contract, but is a solid defensemen in his own right.

I would send any D prospect in a package for Drouin. I would also have no issue sending some NHL bodies with him to try and solve the need for NHL players today (as sureloss mentioned). Russell+any D prospect+ 2nd. I would be okay if more was included because I think Drouin will be a great compliment to Bennett or Monahan in the future

I agree with the bolded. But personally, I would take Dumba (not a huge fan of either)

I wonder if they have any interest in Backlund.
Rumors were the Detroit organization thought highly of Backlund and Yzerman comes from that same group.
He's not quite as young as Dumba or Fabbri but is more proven, his contract is fair value, and another young asset could be added.
Also provides the Lightning some protection at center ice in the situation that Stamkos is moved.
It's a trade that makes the Flame worse today but could be huge in the long run. Probably doesn't have the elite potential that Tampa would want for return in a trade though.

It was Babcock specifically who gave Backlund a compliment after a game against Detroit and the story sort of grew from there that Detroit liked him.

So asking price is Dumba/Ceci type player? So essentially a 3-4 young dman with entry level term and length. Not sure if Calgary has someone like that. All their guys are either way better (Brodie/Hamilton), or not at that level (Kulak/Wotherspoon)
