In the 2009-2010 season Rundblad had 13 points, 1 goal 12 assists, in 47 games in the SEL.
In the off-season he was traded for Tarasenko (the 16th overall pick at the draft).
In the 2010-2011 season he had 50 points in 55 games in the SEL. He lead the league in assists and was third in points.
Rundblad was a former first rounder, who was traded for a first rounder before massively breaking out and then he was traded for Turris.
Take a look at the trade thread:

Those are posts just on the first page. Of course hindsight is 20/20 when dealing with prospects, but at the time Rundblad for Turris looked like an even deal with both players having huge upside, not the deal that it's being portrayed as now.

Ignoring that those don't represent all views, I think these comments show that, while potential is great, until you can take it to the NHL, nothing is certain.
I think fans overvalue prospects and picks, relative to actual NHLers.

Runblad was a stud back then. It looked like a pretty even trade at the time, from what I remember. Just because he has busted since, doesn't mean it was a bad return at the time.

I wasn't a fan about how Turris was handling the situation in Phoenix and thought the trade was pretty even at the time but then again I'm no NHL scout and never really saw Runblad play and it's easy to get caught up in the hype of young players based on performance in other leagues.
If he was a stud why did the Senators also throw in a 2nd round pick? He was a stud in Europe kind of like Roman Cervenka? I get that he looked somewhat promising but when two teams unload him before he gets much of a sniff in the NHL that's a bit of a red flag and in this case the warning signs were correct. Back to the point is that the Coyotes didn't get a proven player back in the deal and had to accept a prospect that was on his 2nd team. Yzerman is likely going to have to decide between an unproven prospect or solid NHL player but I don't see him hitting a home run either way unless he gets a first round pick and parlays that into a very good player.

Apparently there are some concerns about Drouin's east-west game
http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/i...ch-better-spot
Quote:
One Western Conference hockey executive I spoke with last week was worried about Drouin’s "east-west" game, which worked great in junior but hasn’t translated well to the NHL level where the speed and back-pressure is unreal.
Can he adjust? Most teams I’ve spoken with believe absolutely he will. He’s that gifted.
Still, how much do you give up now? Lightning GM Steve Yzerman wants equal value for what a third-overall pick with that kind of offensive talent should fetch.
And again, let me stress this: Yzerman is going to trade Drouin when he feels he’s got a deal that’s met his asking price, a deal that’s going to help the Lightning. There’s no clock on it. It will happen when it happens.

Read the first few pegs of the thread and the only player more overrated than Runblad was Backlund. If Ottawa can pull off another Dman (Ceci) for top 3 pick (Drouin) they are going to win the trade by a landslide.
Turris sure had a lot of doubters at the time of the trade. Funny more people talked about him busting than Runblad. Turris is a 25 goal 50+ point player where Runblad is a complete bust.

There may be no clock on it but how long do you sit on him? As the June draft comes and goes the league gets injected with a new group of solid prospects and a guy like Druin probably isn't going to appreciate in value as the 2013 draft was a long time ago and as we saw with Sven when top prospects aren't progressing to the NHL their value plummets. I think this trade happens no later than the draft as the longer Yzerman holds on to him the less his chances are of getting a solid return.
This issue at the end of the day falls at the feet of Yzerman. What was he thinking passing on Jones for a small forward like Druin? One guy is playing in the NHL at a difficult position for rookies to break into and was just traded for a player that Druin could never fetch in return and now Yzerman is looking at Matt Dumba who's not a bad player but also not Seth Jones.

I think if Drouin is not gone by the deadline it will be the draft for sure. That or they kiss and make up

Yeah the Dumba swap would be good for both sides.

That's it? Cody f'n Ceci? Tells you that the shine is off Drouin's apple. Not a huge return for a player of Drouin's supposed talents.

Do the Flames have a prospect/young player like that? Someone they'd be willing to trade for Drouin?

We would probably have to package a few good young prospects vs young NHL-ready players. Kylington would likely have to be involved along with a prospect of similar calibre.
