Actually, CalgaryNext, as planned, is such a disaster that I would prefer the flames not build it even if they paid for it all by themselves.

The fieldhouse doubling as the Stamps new stadium is the problem here. But I can't imagine the Flames drop it unless they sell the Stamps. The arena is really what most people really care about, if it were an either/or proposition the arena would have 95% of the support. Just sucks they can't really do anything with McMahon. Just the Flames contribution and a ticket levy could cover a nice arena.

If that is directed at me, then I disagree.
The fieldhouse seems like a real half measure and I'd much prefer an outdoor stadium for the stampeders.
The other problem is there is no "courtyard" or central square or anything and it orphans the river. There is no infrastructure thought put into this at all. That area of the bow river pathway is so narrow as it is and it has so much potential.
My point is, if this is the project they want to build, as they've shown, I'd prefer they didn't.

No, it was generally aimed, and you're going to have to try a lot harder if you hope to win one of the daily Hyperbole Awards.
(though I do think there was a little in your post as well)

kind of like how Bettman stated the future of Calgary might rely on CalgaryNext?

Bettman was on the CBC Eyeopener this morning. I missed the whole interview but it doesn't sound like he came across great.

So Ottawa's about to release their arena plan - http://www.illuminationlebreton.ca/index.html
At a brief look at the website - make CalgaryNext look like amateur hour.

That is an impressive presentation of their vision and makes you wonder wtf Ken King is doing.

Where is the proposed funding slide for that Ottawa vision?

There are actually two bids proposed....this is the second one.

Just from an initial impression from the renderings, both come across quite a bit more professional than what CalgaryNext has presented.

That's what happens when you rush something out to try and ride a sentimental "just made the playoffs" wave.

The kid that setup the Lemonade stand outside the Flames dressing room was quite a bit more professional than CalgaryNext.

Flames focused on funding and no reliable vision/rendering.
EDIT:
on second look, there may be some different reasoning for this. Ottawa has a bid process for it, so renderings are key right off the bat. Calgary Flames are not bidding against anyone, so renders are less important in the scheme of their proposal.
I think my comment still stands, though.

Considering the Flames been working on plans for seemingly half a decade, I'd hate to see them take their time.

Yeah I believe it's been on the backburner for a long time, but I legitimately believe it was rapidly pushed together to present something after last spring.
But I'm hyper cynical ... so who knows.

Hahah. Another FML day for Ken King.
Literally any news about new arena new turns out negative for CalgaryNext.
Keep up the great work, Ken.

Huh. It looks like the Senators paid some professionals to put that presentation together and gave them weeks - even months - to do it. They really pulled out all the stops. I thought these things were just put together with powerpoint over a long weekend by the team president.

Ken King really is the Kevin Lowe equivalent of arena building, it's pathetic.
