We're a family of three living in a 2 bedroom condo in the Beltline. We are two blocks away from Safeway, three from Co-op. My daughter's school (she will attend it next year) is two blocks away. We have several parks within a couple minutes walk. I commute on foot to work and her daycare. Yes, we do drive out to the 'burbs for Costco shopping, but it's not essential. There is a new (small) Canadian Tire going in a few blocks away and a new grocery store. Yes, if we had a second child, it would be harder to stay in Beltline and I do wish there were more low-rise, townhouse/brownstone options here, but there's really no need to move at this point. I love this neighbourhood, before having kids and now.

Core yes. I wouldn't live in the core even as a 20-something. I lived in Eau Claire for 5 years at that time and you're right it is a dead zone for everyone. Great commute, but nothing is open and there are few schools.
No one lives in the core proper. That is one of the problems with Calgary in general. Inner city however, cross the river into Sunnyside. Sunnyside Elementary is there just 3 blocks from home, my street has 25-30 kids under 13, the people on my street have very family friendly and we are close with many of them. In fact one of CP members is a father and a neighbor of mine. Heck we even have a full sized skating rink in New Edinbourough Park.
Anyways, Core and Inner City are two different places completely. Inner City is a great place, very family friendly, and personally the best place I and my family have ever lived.

Not to mention, we have there are two large grocery chains in the Beltline alone.

I'm pretty sure Muta came up with that, no? If not, who did?

You should remember, you were the first to reply to it.
I really don't care, just think it's odd how he keeps saying he invented it, like it means anything. He came up with Yop-Sipper, a play on Latter Sipper. I finished it off with the now notorious Gobbler.
If he'd like I'll give him 5% of the animation rights. But I retain sole control of Mr. Yob Gobbler and the entire Yob Gobbling family action figure property.

Sure you care, you've sent me several messages about it. Unless that was another MrMastadonFarm.

Maybe, just weird to see him continually say he "invented" it over the years. I Pm'd him when he asked who did if it wasn't him because it was better than cluttering up the thread. Only after his brother rushed to his defence did I post here.

Why do you keep thinking we're brothers? You keep jacking off to this every chance you get and your memory for details over two years ago is also very creepy.

It's more hilarious when you think of the voice of their respective avatars doing the talking. Lord Varys' voice for MMF, loud sarcastic noises for Muta's Partick Thistle avatar.
Or maybe that's just me.

Memory = Creepy. Yikes.
Don't know why he's so upset, I said I'd give you a percentage of animation rights.

Actually this might be interesting to see. If they got the number right there shouldn't be any 'loss' to the surrounding communities. If it's too high then people will just build outside the city, which doesn't help the issues but still loads a lot of our infrastructure.

I was going to take issue with the "sprawl subsidy", but it probably is an accurate description of what was going on. Paying for the costs of that infrastructure just makes sense.
Now, if only the federal government could see fit to stop home mail delivery and install the big mailboxes...

Heheh, not to derail the thread (though it looks like it might have been anyway) but I don't get the constant whinning about those community mailboxes. They just ran another story last week.
I've been using a community mailbox in the last two communities I've been in. For over 24 years! It's not a new thing.
I get the old and infirm angle, but even then, I gotta think, there were/are old and infirm in the communities that had them before. They seemed to figure it out.
People will just complain about anything.

Living inner city makes perfect sense.... If you're very confident that you won't be forced to work outside of the inner city over the life of your mortgage. Otherwise you're just paying a high premium for a small place that's an annoying drive away from everything but Nightclubs, High End restaurants and the Drop-in Center.
That's personally why I never got the appeal. To each their own though. I despise driving around the inner city and I've only had one job downtown and I would've been pretty bummed had I bought a place near that job since I don't work any where near the core now.
