But if it was The New York Times, Rolling Stone, or 60 Minutes that wanted some time to talk about the little under dog mayor in Canada that won the twitter championship of the world, he would be tripping all over his self to make the time.

I honestly believe the guy would rather have the team move than even budge an iota on this issue. And I don't think I'm wrong.
This happens in Council meetings all the time. Ask any lawyer or planner who makes submissions to Council.

Now can people not see how arrogant and dismissive Nenshi has become?

I have season tickets to the flames. Love watching the games. The Dome needs only one fix in my opinion. Fix the bathrooms so the lineups don't cause busted bladders. That's all I need.

I can tell you the Dome is awesome when the fans are into it, and all when they aren't (like they are not for 6-7 years up until last year).

I'm sorry guys, but all of you attacking Nenshi right now are sounding like little children throwing tantrums.

How about getting frustrated with the Flames ownership group for throwing out a horrible proposal that is not well thought out? Why are you going after Nenshi when this is not his problem, it is the Flames problem. You have billionaire owners trying to get the tax payers to pay for their arena, but yet you are all mad at the person who actually has Calgary's best interest in mind.

It's simple math/economics - if the city spends 200 million on an arena, that's 200 million they have to cut from something else, or raise taxes to everyone in Calgary for what maybe only 50% (probably a high %) support.
Valid points but for Pete's sake meet with the Commish.
The Flames are important to this city. This is an important project.
Too much posturing and not enough conversations.

Everyone is putting their big boy pants on and letting ego get in the way. I would expect our mayor to rise above that. He failed in that regard.

Find a solution. NHL, the city, the Mayor, the owners - all of them. Find a F'N solution and then bring it to the public.

You have to look beyond the way the message is being presented and focus on what he is trying to say. I learned that from my late father who could be a sarcastic SOB at times but had good points in the end.

Business deals are often made because of how the message is delivered.

Nenshi only takes breaks from his Twitter account to meet with his lawyers to settle lawsuits.

My biggest fear is they won't be able to find a solution. Nenshi seems hell bent on not giving any public money to the team with the Flames owners thinking they should get some. Simple solution is for the owners to build an arena with their own money and worry about a new football stadium later.

Like a regular sleezebag?

The comments here about Nenshi are reminiscent of the people piling on Hamilton in his first dozen games here. Pathetic. I bet there is a lot of overlap of those posters too.

He built up trust, obviously how he did so worked for him. I just don't understand what Nenshi has to gain by being so abrasive he seems more interested in proving how awesome he is than anything else and it needs to stop.

Not only that you're not going to out Bettman Gary Bettman. Nenshi is going all ego trip on this and is failing miserably. BTW I have no love for Bettman at all.

I think that is precisely what they will do in the end. What's unfortunate is that the City will never get a new football stadium and it will likely mean the eventual end of the Stampeders down the road because no one under the age of 35 gives a crap about the Stamps and that's not going to change if they continue to play in the dump they currently play in.

Doubt it. Pretty sure CFCs is about as big as it ever will be. New stadium isn't going to generate interest long term.

I've disagreed with him on some things lately, but I'm sure as hell behind him on this. No corporate welfare for sports stadiums. It is never, ever a good investment for the city.

I refuse to go past september. If it had some protection from the weather I would certainly go more.

If this was happening stateside there would be a % increase in a state sales tax with that % increase going towards building a new arena or football stadium. Owners are used to holding a city or state hostage to get what they want.
