The anti-gang unit happened to be chillin' across the street. Makes this whole thing even stranger.

Apparently they were right across the street. Thank god they were, because otherwise this is yet another unsolved night club shooting.

Not really. I don't frequent clubs very often, but I think I've seen them every time Ive gone to one, especially the major ones. Sounds like Ten is a hot spot for gangs so it makes sense they would be there or close.

Again, that club is sketch on non-show nights (or at least it was the couple times I went). Not surprised.

Again? Didn't this happen last year? I remember seeing the cop cars and reading about a shooting there a year ago.
What kind of crowd goes to this club anyway? I've only seen it when shopping across the street at Co-Op.

Don't get it at all...were they trying to assassinate the guy behind the glass door?
Also...yeah white jacket guy? WTF? Does he pull a weapon out of his collar before approaching the bouncers? How is he so nonchalant about the whole situation?

More relevant though, it sounds like what Sociale eventually became - a seedy, gangbanger club.

Being in the criminal justice system for years, it never ceases to amaze me how stupid 99% of criminals are.
The chance these guys weren't going to get caught is 0%. No masks, license plate of car was on surveillance etc etc. Idiots. Idiots. Idiots.

Pretty sure a guy can pick up his girlfriend from an LGBTQ bar.

I shared the video with a friend of mine on Facebook who is an American and used to be a police officer in San Diego. He thought it was funny, the "Canadian thing to do" - don't run away.

Undercover cop units usually hang out in front of sketchy/ popular bars.
At popular places here it is not uncommon to see up to 20 police officers hanging out across the street.
Especially the Strathcona Hotel.

Yup. My girlfriend has gay friends and I have had to regularly had to pick them all up from the local bar here.
Alot of straight girls actually prefer going to the gay bars because the men and woman there are alot more respectful towards them then the drunk dudes at the other clubs.

Not singling you out, just answering the question. I was wondering too.
From the CBC site:
'Calgary is on track to double the number of shootings this year over last. Police warn turf battles over drugs in the city's northeast have escalated into a gang war.'
Agree that it such a weird shooting. It like he doesn't have a specific target. Would love to know more. Have some speculation at this point.

Perhaps we should consider building some sort of wall...
