Nenshi snark works really well with voters whom agree with said snark, as it does here. I'm sure 60% of people laughed at that.
It is not like he is coming out with press releases. News reporters are asking him questions on it. he answered. next question.
Also, what does meeting with Bettman accomplish for the City? has the proposal changed? Does Gary have authority to bind the Flames to any changes? or is it just more fluff?
Sure, the "New York" comment was a little much for most, but really, how else do you describe the show Bettman put on? Oh look guys, you need this, first class city, vibrancy, etc. get on board!

Arrogant or not...every other city in Canada wishes they had Nenshi, he is the best mayor in Canada hands down.
If he was a hockey player, he would be Johnny mixed with Carey Price and some Toews on-top.
Thank your lucky stars you have someone who actually looks out for Calgarians best interests and isn't afraid to make enemies nor unpopular decisions.

Im totally on board for calgarynext EXCEPT for the location. I could swallow the public funds if it wasnt for the potential millions on top in creosote cleanup.
Bettman needs to play his part pandering to the owners, and Nenshi needs to play his part pandering to smarmy morons, but I wish both could pull their heads out of their asses and be realistic. Ken king too, probably even moreso. Every side in this is making the whole thing way more complicated than it needs to be.

Why should Nenshi have to make time for Bettman? His job is to be the elected leader of a city of over a million people. Compared to him Bettman is a pissant commissioner of a pro sports league whose interests are not Calgary's.
While it is important to figure out a way for the city and the Flames to co-exist, I for one am glad Calgary's mayor isn't tripping over himself to cater to Bettman or the NHL.
Perspective, please.

Perspective indeed. Meeting with him is catering to him? Get over yourself Nenshi.

Yeah, he's doing a great job by not just bending over and handing hundreds of million dollars and valuable real estate to a group of billionaires looking to maximize their revenue by building an arena that will likely have less seats, and more expensive seats overall.
Keep it up Nenshi.

Probably shouldn't read a thread about Bettman wanting to meet with the mayor then.

As someone in the construction industry I have to strongly disagree. I don't really care about snarky twitter remarks that are considered 'hip' though. Some people seem to love him solely for those comments. Mind blowing to me.
The Uber and taxi situation is ugly as well.

Ah, the trials and tribulations of being Calgary's mayor. Say nothing and people think you're weak or bought and paid for. Say something most calgarians are thinking and you're a petulant, arrogant child who shouldn't represent us. Oh wait, that's just Nenshi.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't!

Look, my basic problem with the mayor is his approach. He lets his personal bias get in the way. I have sat through several planning applications and his arrogance is appalling.
My colleague was recently before Council and before she could even begin her presentation Nenshi interrupted her and quipped "And we are here, why...?".
