The Flames were in a submissive spot(assuming this has been ongoing).
Ask him to play through injury, you diminish his value.
Make him sit and recover, diminish his value while gaining some production.
Force him either way is selfish for personal gain. It's Hudler's call on how to proceed.
If the Flames let him make his own call, they might be on their way to re-sign him to a same AAV contract for 2-3yrs. They could also trade him.

I have heard a similar story. Have a friend who was interning in the office. I have a strong feeling that it is true and management will have no interest in bringing hudler back, i fully expect his name to be heard in trade talks leading up to the deadline.

Injury always reduces price unfortunately. Although he's not a UFA until the summer, his potential price if he were to go on the market will drive internal negotiations, and there will clearly be less interest for him after this season as opposed to if he had repeated last season.
Nature of the injury (chronic vs one-off) also matters. Expected recovery path of a broken rib is very different than a pulled groin.

I would really like to have him back, as he fits in so well with Johnny and Monahan. However, knowing that management is probably "old school" and putting the emphasis on size, he, along with Russell, are probably going to be dealt.
I would prefer to build a team like Chicago and Montreal that are built on speed and skill, rather than size like Anaheim, Winnipeg, and LA.

Except that, that's EXACTLY what you are being, but with a Vaguebook flavour post.
Ugh.

really hope he gets over this groin injury and stays healthy for the remainder of the season .
PLayers play through stuff and I cannot imagine how much a proud player like Jiri has to suffer not being able to contribute.
To those writing him off I think you need to look around the league and see it isnt just Hudler having issues with health . Hell it took a while for Gio and hes back in form.
Look at Getslaugh in Anaheim
I am a little suprised Bob Let him play through this as long as he did however instead of dressing a healthier body. Mind you a veteran saying hes good to go and someone like Raymond sitting in the pressbox not being able to crack the lineup because hes just a sorry excuse for a hockey player what other options do you have but to let a guy who isnt 100% play.

Isn't signing a 32 year-old UFA also 'old school'? (ignoring the silliness of the comment)
If you prefer the Flames build a faster team, Hudler is slow, and getting slower.

He may be slower and his game affected because of his injury. However, I believe any issues regarding speed are more than compensated by his skill and IQ. In my mind, he's a keeper, providing you can sign him at a reasonable rate, which may well happen as the Op has suggested.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what happened. Isn't much of a rumour. The rest of it would be crossing into that territory which is why I left it out. You gotta remember these guys are human beings too not some mythical creatures that we glorify them to be on a fan board. They go through their own personal issues and are known to engage in substances and alcohol just like anyone else. By no means am I saying he's a substance abuser or even a user. Just that it seems like you are so quick to disregard it as if he would never do such a thing as drink the night before a game. I'm assuming you must know him personally than?

It's a fan forum free for speculation. In a thread where the title implys that we should all be happy a guy is injured, someone posting what they heard from someone they know socializes with the team is considered the "crap"?

Haha, Lanny'sDaMan surely understands all that, his point was that CP isn't the place for those types of rumors, and whether you think you did or not, you quite literally posted a rumor of that nature.
To say "Here's something I heard from a reliable source, but I know CP isn't the place for it so I won't expand on it" is still posting a rumor.

No it isn't. It's a private message board that has been attacked legally in the past for things members have posted, that's why they explicitly state that you can't do what you just did.
There's no room for personal, off ice rumors on CP, never has been.
EDIT: Just noticed you've been here since 2002? Wow, I was giving a free pass thinking you were new, but certainly you have to have noticed warnings/explanations on spreading personal rumors about players at least once in your time here?

Fair enough I'll delete it. That's quite tame on the side of things though. I've thought to post other things before but I didn't want to be in a position to have to "out" this person. Or possible players who scan the forum reading and being upset with said friend. I will say this though. We cheer for a team composed of human beings. We have great guys who are loyal husbands and everything you'd want to have as a "role model" and we got guys who party hard and bang hookers just like I'm sure many in here would if they were making millions. And sometimes those aren't the guys you think they are (this is a general statement not saying Hudler is any of them)

Yes, I would consider it exactly that. Not because it's hearsay, but because it's also speculation on more serious issues.
