People wont like it but it would take something like
Posible trades without taking a bad contract:
-Ferland + a 2nd + a 3rd. (No way i trade Ferland right now)
-Andersen/Kylington/Hickey + Granlund + 2nd.
-Hudler (salary retained) + 2nd + 3rd. **** only if Hudler is healthy and producing by the deadline and tampa is on a playoff run.
-They will want a 1st but only teams in the playoffs would consider that.
Guys like Wideman, Russell and Raymond arent upgrades for them.

Needs Bollig, Engelland and Smid included or Yzerman hangs up.
Seriously though, Tampa doesn't want all of Calgary's garbage for Drouin.

Detroit radio is talking about a proposed deal that includes:
To Det: Stamkos (Signed at 8/84)
Drouin
To TB: Nyquist, Marchenko, Sheahan, Mantha, 16 1st, 17 1st
Guess THN reported it, I think as a bold prediction

I could see something built around a Bouma+Hudler 50% retained.
Bouma is on a good new contract, plays hard and would be a beast in the east no doubt and Hudler is an offensive option for the rest of this year and potentially longer if they want to keep him. That gives them their rugged winger along with a bonus offensive piece on a half off contract where they control what they want to do.
Only thing they need after that is a D-man. There is no way they get anyone of the big guys but they arent really looking for offense on the backend just a steady right-handed D and Engelland fits that bill. I think he's been quietly steady this year and he could be that RH D that they are looking for.
The last thing would be a prospect/pick combo. I dont think there is anyway they get a 1st in this draft year and I dont think they want to wait till the draft to trade Drouin so I think something like a 2nd + Hickey or Andersson gets it done.
We would need to take some salary back and could do so by taking Coburn's contract at 4.5 mill cap hit this season off their hands.
To Tampa
Bouma
Hudler 1/2 off
Engelland
Hickey OR Andersson
2nd round pick 16
To Flames
Drouin
Coburn
5th round pick 16
Gaudreau-Monahan-Frolik
Drouin-Granlund-Bennett
Ferland-Backlund-Jones
Raymond/Bollig-Stajan-Jooris
Giordano-Brodie
Russell-Hamilton
Coburn-Wideman
Smid
Ramo
Hiller

I am assuming "/dream" is your version of green text?
What you are offering to Tampa maybe enough to get Coburn, its about the value he was traded for last trade deadline.
Then they are going to throw Drouin for free?
What would you accept in trade for Hamilton and Bennett? Actually think for a moment what acquiring both players cost us. That's what Tampa wants, or more!
That's IMO, if I am wrong and you are right you are a genius, and I will be the first to vote for Treliving being inducted into the Hockey Hall of fame right now.
Really though we should be focusing on just Drouin. Would Poirier, Kylington and a second get it done? I could not offer more than that.

I would be super pissed if Ferland got traded. I really like this kid. Just waiting for him and Bennett to come around. Thats going to be fun to watch.

Ya no way I trade ferland either. That one was mostly a point to show what it might take.
Ferland represents what this team needs more of - heavy on the puck, shoot first, and hit the net hard.

If Ferland is the major piece in acquiring Drouin then you do that deal immediately.
What is going on around here?

Yup. As much as I love Ferland, he is not even close to having Drouin Potential.

Ya reading that I was thinking fans fall way too in love with players. If we can package Ferland with some prospects and picks I'd be all over that.

For real? I'd do Ferland and a conditional 1st for Drouin in a heartbeat. And I'd even offer to personally drive Ferly to the airport. Some people here are on crazy pills!

Im probably more than guilty of Homerism and overrating Ferland. Got the Red colored glasses on. I think he's gonna be an important part of this teams success.

If he gets you Drouin, you do it.
But if the Flames are at the point of looking more closely at organizational needs, Ferland is more valuable to the team than Drouin could be.
Today I trade Ferland + (small plus) for Drouin, but I think I might regret that trade within the next 2 years.

The way I see it is. Is it easier for a team to draft/sign/trade for Patty Kane like player, or a Milan Lucic like player ? I'm not comparing these guys directly just style wise and possibly potential. Sure both of them have solid value, but you take the Kane and run every time.

I suspect Drouin's character will be a major factor in the Flames' interest

If the Flames really do have 10 young players and prospects better than the guy drafted 3rd overall a couple years ago, then Treliving and company don't need to trade for Drouin anyway - they just need to sit back and watch this team develop into a powerhouse dynasty.
