We should've traded for Drouin yesterday. When it made sense!

I'm shocked it's only 16. Honestly. Most must be from the west. He'll fetch a good return, question is, what is Yzerman looking for? Veteran help? Picks? Prospects? Media concensus is vet help, Flames have an abundance of that.

What I said earlier,

Friedman also speculating that TB wants a right-hand shot D or a forward with an edge. Both with term.

Lance Bouma and Dennis Wideman along with any B level prospect.

I could get behind something around those parameters. Sucks to lose a Bouma type but with Ferland apparently destined for a permanent bottom 6 role, it could make Bouma easier to move.
Or, move Ferland if thats what Yzerman thinks would work.

seems pretty unlikely considering he wasn't even the first pick, and they didn't even have the pick the used to take him at the time they made their first pick.

I could see something big between the Lighting and Blues
Stamkos and Drouin for Backes and Pietrangelo

Peitrangelo is about as untouchable as a player gets. Untested testy rookie and a UFA, no matter how good, would be a starting point from which to add, let alone Backes.
I wouldn't bet against the idea of a package deal both ways though. There is actually a good chance that Drouin ends up being the addon player to net a bigger fish. Change the player to Shattenkirk, and you might be on to something.

Has Stamkos stock dropped that low? I get that Pietrangelo is great, but Backes is a plugger at this point. Stamkos is still one of the most dynamic forwards in the game, and Drouin has sky-high potential. The Blues would have to do better than that IMO.
EDIT: Except for that UFA part. Forgot about that. Carry on.

Backes is a 32 year old UFA, likely looking for Kesler's contract, and Pietrangelo has not been elite this year

Backes isn't a plugger, he's a high end 2C who can pot 25+ goals and 50+ points. He hits like a truck and he's a good two way player. He would be perfect for the Flames actually.

Except the contract he'll want won't be worth it

Ya he'll likely command 30m/5 years or something, too rich for our blood. Also, his age isn't ideal for where we're going either. Still, if he were magically on this year's team, it would be quite the shot in arm for us.

Stamkos is also a UFA and hasn't been elite this year. The difference is, Pietrangelo has term on his contract and Stamkos will be looking for like $10M+ in July.
I'd rather have Pietrangelo. Drouin isn't enough to make up the difference.

1st of all Yzerman would never go for that. 2nd they dont have the cap space.
You either have to take a bad contract back or trade a top prospect 1 for 1.

I suspect we'll be eating a bad contract. I've said all along that I think Coburn heads out of town with Drouin. His contract really balances out what will likely be coming in. I still contend the best deal that fits for both teams is Backlund and Russell for Drouin and Coburn. If they prefer Wideman, I'd be fine with that, even if we have to eat a larger percentage of the contract. That would meet the needs of what Tampa is looking for.

Wideman, Hudler, Russell, Bouma, Raymond 50% retained for Drouin and Carle?

Roster limits? Plus, quantity does not equal quality. The you have to think about salary considerations. Tampa gives up $6.4M in salary and takes on $15.7M. Puts Tampa over the cap by $9.3M.
